[Friday evening, the 5th
day of the week, May 1 in the 2010th year
of Caesar Tiberius.]
Dear Toby,
My old friend and Brother in Daniel’s Messiah,
Yes, I believe that the message of this Newsletter
#7 of yours is, at least for me, the one of the greatest value out of them all
thus far and the one lesson with the most true, the most meaningful, and the
most lasting message. That is, the one re this discovery of yours re Caesar
Tiberius as represented in Daniel Chapters 8 and 11. Nevertheless, as I’ve
emphasized to you before, the era of Caesar Tiberius did not end with his
death. And, as I see it, this is of utmost importance for each and all of us to
take to heart!!! Indeed, to the extent that we, anyone of us, do identify
ourselves, officially and before the powers dressed in dark uniforms, that is,
those that we are used to call “the authorities,” we do in fact identify
ourselves as persons of and in the Stat(u)e of Nebuchadnezzar, and more particularly,
as persons of the State of Caesar Tiberius. For isn’t it true that we are
indeed still using his calendar, his reckoning of time?! By so doing how can we
avoid being treated as subjects owned and controlled by the powers of darkness
being spoken of in Ephesians 6:12? By so doing how can we ever expect to be
victorious in each our own Great Controversy between Christ and Satan or to
truly arrive at the point of those being spoken of in Revelation 15:2?
We are truly living at the time of the stone being
spoken of in Daniel 2:34, 35, 44, 45. The question is: What will be each our
choice? Which side do we claim to be one with? Am I one with the stone both in
my thought and in my daily action? Or am I a split personality? One with a
double tongue? Do I identify myself officially and consistently as one with my
Father in heaven, that is, with my Father in names? That is, do I claim myself
in such terms as is giving a clear title to the One that is my Creator in
verity? Or else, do I willingly and stupidly bow down to the expectation of
people around me such that I continually identify myself as a person of the
State of Caesar Tiberius, that is, by showing an ID Card that is forever
property of the State within which time and events are being defined in terms of
Caesar Tiberius’ reign, and by saying that “Yes Sir, that’s me!”? Or, isn’t it
true that most of us are still reckoning “our” time by terminology such as
means in practical life “under the reign of Caesar Tiberius…,” that is,
by counting time beginning with the reign of Caesar Tiberius?!!!, that is by
our use of the Gregorian calendar, named after Pope Gregory XIII,
one of the high priests within the Empire of Caesar Tiberius and his successors?
And how is it that we’ve been fooled into doing such a thing for such a long
time, if not by that chief characteristic of Caesar Tiberius, that is, by
‘intrigue?’ Or, isn’t the definition of ‘intrigue’ simply ‘secret plotting?’
Indeed, what’s the need for additional Caesars when we are still submitting
ourselves under the title of Caesar Tiberius and so long as his priestly
hierarchy is able to maintain a semblance of order within that still very
viable Roman Empire? Or isn’t it obvious from a study of current definitions of
law, such as e.g. Black’s Law Dictionary, that we are still under Roman Law –
almost regardless of which country or State we are living in? Albeit much
or most of the higher echelons of that pyramidal structure is hidden behind the
curtains – or in the clouds – of Roman Catholic mysteries and, yes, intrigue!
Another thought just came to me… Consider this:
When did Yeshua’s reign begin? That is, What’s the point in time reckoned as
Yeshua’s final victory? Isn’t it the time when he himself said: “It is
finished…” (John 19:30.) Thus, in terms of that final victory over sin the
Kingdom of Yeshua could perhaps be considered as having begun in the 9th
hour of the 17th day of moon #1, in the 18th year of
Caesar Tiberius’ reign, when indeed he did give up his ghost upon the cross.
Per such reckoning we would now be in the 1992nd year of our Lord
Yeshua’s reign, wouldn’t we? Yet, until we properly and effectively, by our
words and actions, pledge allegiance to our Lord and King Yeshua, we still, by
default, do remain under the rule of Caesar Tiberius, do we not? Or, isn’t it
true that “first in time is first in line” and thus, reckoning by time alone
Caesar Tiberius does have a higher claim upon the ones who has ever been his
subjects than does Yeshua our Messiah? However, and please notice this very
carefully! If our claim is based upon the crucifixion, that is, based upon the
death of Christ, then who is the victor if not the one authorizing the
[crucifying] act? That is, isn’t the victor the one under whose rule Pilate was
acting? That is, if we are claiming for our salvation the crucifixion and death
of Christ, aren’t we then in effect claiming Caesar Tiberius as our Lord of
Lords and King of Kings? Intrigue! Intrigue!!! Furthermore, if we’d rather
prefer to claim, not the date of crucifixion, but a false resurrection date, as
in Sunday morning at dawn, that is, a creation out of nothing but the
imaginations and ignorance of the priesthood of the Mysteries of the women
depicted in Revelation 17:5, that is, a creation of the priesthood of Caesar
Tiberius, then, aren’t we once again being fooled into pledging allegiance to
the Roman powers and to Caesar Tiberius?!!!!!!! Or, isn’t it true that the
owner of the created thing is no one but the creator thereof?
Thus, what’s the solution to the dilemma we’re
being fooled into by this Master of Intrigue? Isn’t the answer found in
discovering for ourselves another and more secure Creator. The creator of real
time and of real events. That is, we may claim any true real time date
pertaining to our Savior’s victory of sin, that is, victory over such as is, in
real terms, missing the mark, missing the point, victory over such blindness
and ignorance as are no more real than the imaginations of our night visions,
of our own dreams… Perhaps by beginning to realize and use the calendar
designed and created by the Creator of the Universe, the calendar defined and
used, generally and by default, within the Holy Scriptures? The calendar almost
totally obscured by the blinded translators of most of the translations of the
Bible in our own modern languages. Obscured by the Master of Intrigue? Yes, I
believe that is very much the truth! So who is this Master of Intrigue behind
the persona of Caesar Tiberius? Wouldn’t he or she be Satan himself? Better
yet, wouldn’t he or she be anyone among us volunteering, while knowing of a
better way, to choose the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
over and above that which is, in very real terms here and now, the fruit of the
Tree of Life?
Thus, rather than focusing our attention first and
foremost upon the killing and death of Yeshua, wouldn’t it be better to focus
our attention upon that point in time that is associated with the first fruits
of salvation, that event which is associated with restoration of life, the
waving of the sheaf on the morning of the Seventh Day Sabbath that fell that
year “in the midst of the week?” Cf. Daniel 9:27 and this
link! Thus, if we begin our reckoning such that that Seventh Day
Sabbath of the Waving of the Sheaf is our Day number 1, then aren’t we much
more likely to arrive on the 50th day upon the correct Day of
Sabbath, aka. Feast of Weeks or Pentecost? Aren’t we, if and when so doing,
much more likely to draw the right lessons, and to experience the intended
consequences and blessings, that the Creator of Life and Reality has had in
store for us from the beginning? Isn’t it strange how that the Master of
Intrigue has been almost universally and totally successful in obscuring that
Annual Feast behind the false substitute that is being placed a subtle one day
later? And wasn’t this particular substitute initiated with Caesar
Constantine’s prohibition for the Sanhedrin to continue their regular meetings
pertaining to the Jewish calendar, that is, to the effect that the last meeting
of the Sanhedrin took place in 358 CE? I don’t know the details pertaining to
this last question of mine, so there is plenty of room for growth in insight as
to this part of the ongoing intrigue… And by effectively removing or defiling
this annual Feast of God, pertaining as it is to the remembrance of the Seventh
Day Sabbath observance and of all the blessings thereof, isn’t this Master of
Intrigue thereby removing one most important way mark along our path to heaven
and towards the true and real Kingdom of God?

Scriptural instructions re this 50 day reckoning towards Pentecost and towards
the Day of Sabbaths, please press this

personal guidance under none but the Holy Spirit of the Almighty God, Yahweh
Elohim! As to the New Testament events tied to the annual Feast of Sabbaths as
observed first by Jesus and then by the Apostles subsequent to the resurrection
of Christ, please press this
link!
And what may be the next step after that
particular recognition of revival? Well, whose life was it that was being
restored if not that of the man who used to call himself the Son of Adam, that
is, “the Son of Man,” as rendered for instance in KJV? Cf. the original Hebrew
in Shem
Tov’s Hebrew Matthew! And when did Yeshua ever voluntarily submit himself
under the Kingdom of Satan? Ever? Yes, God’s title to Yeshua was being somewhat
clouded on at least three occasions by the actions of others around him, that
is 1) by his parents who consented to the taxation of Caesar Augustus, 2) by
Peter who was intimidated into consenting to giving the tax collector a promise
on behalf of himself and his Master re the payment of tax, yet, Peter was later
reprimanded for having done what he did, indeed, Peter’s was an action that had
never been authorized, and 3) the unauthorized sale of the title to Yeshua by
Judas. Well, Yeshua, by the power of his Father in heaven, was able to successfully
overcome each of those three critical situations in his life, that is, just as
he had at the time of his personal confrontation with Satan when being tempted
while fasting for forty days in the desert. Thus, in effect, at the time when
he uttered those words, “It is finished!,” Yeshua had completed and perfected
his life’s journey successfully! Thus proving to all that mastery over sin is
not impossible for anyone among the Sons of Adam! Thereby also disallowing the
false allegations of Satan to a contrary effect! It follows that that point in
time upon the cross is not to be considered or claimed as a point of beginning
of anything! The point of beginning was at the other end of Yeshua’s life. That
point is being recorded in ample detail in Luke 1:26-33 (cf. this
link.) Now, that being given, if and when I am claiming a true and real
date for such an event, the beginning of a real life of one son of Adam, for
instance that of Yeshua (thus the “2026” above) or that
of myself and mine, in terms of God’s own calendar - that is, as opposed to a
fraudulent date created by the power of the enemy of life, or even by claiming
a correct date based upon a calendar created and owned by that same enemy of
life - then, at that point and by so doing, am I not doing my very best towards
acknowledging my Creator’s proper claim to a clear title upon each one among
men and upon each and every Son of Adam, myself not excluded? Thus, if Yeshua
proved to me by his own example that living such a victorious life is entirely
possible and doable, then am I not pretty foolish if I am not taking that
lesson to heart while walking persistently, patiently, and under the constant
guidance of the Comforter provided for me by my Father in heaven? And having
done so, while claiming also the preeminent example of Yeshua, the Messiah, am
I not thereby claiming priority in time and priority in line, that is, re my
Creator’s rightful claim as the owner and proprietor of all of me and mine?
Beyond that, is it not possible, yes even more effective and more powerful to
give credence to God, Yahweh Elohim, as my designer and creator ever since the
beginning of time, that is from the time recorded for me per the very first
words of Genesis 1:1 – thus the “5930±” above? Or isn’t
that a way of learning from the example of Yeshua, the Messiah, who chose to
reference himself preferably as either the Son of Adam (e.g. Matt 8:20) or as
the Son of the Father in heaven (John 17:1,) that is, as opposed to claiming
merely his being the son of Joseph and Mary – each of whom could perhaps be
claimed by Satan for not being without spot or wrinkle?
. . . . . . .
May I make a suggestion? How about making a
personal commitment to revitalize, for yourself and in your own life and
experience, whether alone or with family and friends, this true and valid
observance of the annual Feast known as the Day of Sabbaths? Beginning with the
day known as Sabbath “May 22, 2010?” Today happens to be the 4th
Sabbath of the 7 Sabbaths in the counting towards Pentecost, known also as the
Counting of Omer. But notice, 4 is the number “in the midst of” the reckoning
from 1 through 7… Thus, isn’t it appropriate to accept this challenge in
consequence of an event with a beginning upon this particular day? Just a
suggestion… Though I believe such a commitment might be something of importance
relative to the reality of one’s pledging allegiance to the One and only King
of Kings, Yahweh Elohim, the One that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and
the fountains of waters…
Or wouldn’t so doing be a very real application in
your own life of that which you are attempting to do by making each of us
recognize Daniel’s Messiah as portrayed in the Book of Daniel?
As for myself I just noted that the Scriptural
Feast of Sabbaths this year falls upon a day that very likely coincides with
the 61st anniversary of the day I was conceived/born, that is, the
day I became a living being as reckoned per a Tiberian/Gregorian calendar...
(As reckoned per the Scriptural calendar that anniversary of mine coincides
with the Fifth Day within the week beginning at sunset tonight.)
. . . . . . .
But allow me to continue my specific comments, as
before, within the body of your Newsletter #7…

The Roman Emperor in Daniel 8
Background
In the previous newsletters I have shown that the power described in Daniel 8:9-12 is the Roman Empire. However, in the interpretation part, Daniel 8:23-25 a specific emperor is portrayed. Thus, the vision describes the power whereas the interpretation depicts the ruler of this empire.
The biblical concept of describing something twice with different perspectives is used to strengthen our understanding of the passage as a whole. If the emperor described fits well to the portrayed empire, our interpretation stands on firm ground. So let us look at the description of this emperor in Daniel 8:23-25:
In the latter
part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a
stern-faced king, a master of intrigue, will arise. He will become very
strong, but not by his own power. He will cause astounding devastation
and will succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy
the mighty men and the holy people. He will cause deceit to prosper,
and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy
many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will
be destroyed, but not by human power. (NIV)
[ - Caesar Tiberius (Svensk
Uppslagsbok, Malmö, 1936.) Notice: Except for the links to Toby’s web
site, all links and brackets within are added / 5930± 02 17 2026 by ToL©]
It is not hard
to see that this passage concerns a specific person. Initially it says that he
is “a stern-faced king” (NIV) or one who has “fierce features” (NKJV). This
emperor is mean, cruel and harsh. In our study of the “vision part” of Daniel 8
we found that the timing here was the time of Christ’s ministry. According to
historical knowledge, the ruler of the Roman Empire at that time was Caesar
Tiberius. Most commentators believe that he reigned from A.D. 14–37.
[ - To
the best of my understanding thus far, the correct revision of Caesar Tiberius’
reign is June 26, 1 BCE – March 15, 23 CE (cf. this
link.)]
Therefore we
conclude that Tiberius was the emperor in charge during Jesus’ ministry and
death.
[ - No, that is not correct reasoning. If two
erroneous estimates of the timing of two different events happen to overlap one
another, this doesn’t prove that the events themselves were in fact concurrent.
What does prove the coexistence of such events is primary documentation (from
that time) of concurrency such as is Luke 3:1-3 as quoted by you below… Or, you
could give reference to Josephus’ statement re the same… - Regardless of
whether or not we are able to date that event in terms of any particular
calendar!]
This is confirmed by the Bible as well. The gospel of Luke mentions his name at the time of Jesus’ baptism, Luke 3:1-3:
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar – when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene – during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. (NIV)
It is no coincidence that Luke gives this information. Our compassionate God gave us the Caesar’s name to let us understand the historical timing for Jesus’ ministry and also help us better understand the book of Daniel.
Caesar Tiberius
Let’s go back
and see what Daniel 8:23-25 says about Tiberius. It gives a very good portrait
of his characteristics. He is generally considered to have been very evil,
especially towards the end of his life.
[ -
Yet, several of Tiberius’ successors on the Roman throne are certainly being
portrayed by historians from that time as having been even more evil than was
Tiberius, e.g. Gaius and Nero. However, notice that per our Julian/Gregorian
reckoning of time, as well as per your within interpretation of Daniel 8 and
11, each and all of those three emperors are part of Caesar Tiberius’ era. Cf.
1) The Twelve Caesars by Suetonius and 2) The Annals by Tacitus. Both of these
ancient books are available in free electronic format at each of this link,
this
link, and this link.]
He was the adopted son of Caesar Augustus. Normally a son by lineage would become the next emperor. Tiberius, however, used intrigue without violence to secure that position for himself.
It is true that he became very strong but what does the phrase “but not by his own power” mean? This phrase indicates that the devil used him as his puppet in a very specific way. The next phrase says that Tiberius “will destroy the mighty men.” The word “men” is added. It is not in the Hebrew text. The word for “the mighty” could also be translated “the countless.” Just a few sentences later it says that this emperor will take his stand “against the Prince of princes.” That sure sounds similar to the “Lord of lords” and Tiberius was ultimately in charge when Christ was crucified. Therefore, I wonder if “the mighty” or “the countless” possibly also refers to Christ.
In the last part
of Daniel 8:25 we read that this emperor “will be destroyed but not by human
power.” That is a fitting description to Caesar Tiberius’ death. He died slowly
of a chronic disease. He had pus-filled sores all over his body and became
insane and paranoid.
[ - It
may be worth noticing that the nature and origin of fear and paranoia is as
follows: When someone is experiencing a sense of guilt in consequence of having
done something believed to be contrary to the will of another, one tends to shy
away from or hide from that other party. This is true regardless of whether or
not the other party is aware of the trespass or not, indeed, regardless of
whether or not the other party is considering it a trespass or not. The sense
of guilt is by its nature subjective and not necessarily objective. So long as one
does not face up to one self, recognizing and taking responsibility for one’s
own actions, one will tend to fear and shy away from that other party. One of
the best examples of that is the event recorded for us in Genesis 3:1-10.
Paranoia is a higher degree of the same and is defined as follows: “Distrust:
extreme and unreasonable suspicion of other people and their motives”
(Microsoft® Encarta® Reference Library 2005.) Notice the word “unreasonable!”
That word is a most important characteristic in order to distinguish between
paranoia or fear, that is, in contrast to such actions as are based upon proper
respect for God’s laws and actions such as avoids trespassing upon those laws
of God, that is, such as constitute unavoidable facts of life. The two are, as
you are well aware, often enough being confused to the effect that God’s people
and such as are really among the Saviors of God are very frequently being
persecuted, martyred, imprisoned, or put in mental institutions under a
diagnosis such as “paranoid schizophrenia” etc.!
[ -
The effective resolution to this problem of fear and paranoia is of course to
face up to, and take personal responsibility for, the original act and to
communicate effectively with the party affected, that is, by confession and
then by restitution. In other words: By taking the bull by the horns… By facing
oneself in the mirror… By recognizing the three fingers pointing back towards
self… By ceasing to put the blame on another first and foremost…
[ - Until that is done one will tend towards abusing anything and
all for the purpose of hiding from an unpleasant and fear filled reality. For
instance: Abuse of power… abuse of alcohol… etc….]
During this time he executed many, even people who were his friends. He was hated for this and everybody waited for him to die. Thus, he was not destroyed “by human power;” no one killed him. He died of natural causes and consequences.
Daniel 11
Here it is
important to build a bridge to Daniel 11. Our denomination generally interprets
Daniel 11:16 to describe the Roman Empire. This power is introduced with the
expression “the invader.” After referring to the power, the different rulers
are described one by one. Daniel 11:17-19 speaks about Julius Caesar. His life
and death is portrayed in three verses. He was succeeded by Caesar Augustus,
11:20, and again a short summary of his life and death is given. The most
important part of his life according to the Bible was the taxation of the whole
Roman Empire, including Judea. This made it necessary for Josef and Mary to go
to Bethlehem. So this text describes the situation at the birth of Christ more
than 500 years in advance!
[ -
Yes, “more than 500 years in advance!” To be exact, I find that Darius’ 3rd
year of reign (Daniel 10:1) began with Tishri 22, 532 BCE and ended Tishri 21,
531 BCE. Interestingly, in Desire of Ages, Ellen White is referencing another
prophet, Zechariah, as prophesying about this same event 500 years in advance…
If you happen to be interested in the precision of this statement of Ellen
White you may consider with me this particular issue beginning with slide #26
in the PowerPoint presentation under this
link of mine.]
Let us read Daniel 11:20:
His successor will send out a tax collector to maintain the royal splendor. In a few years, however, he will be destroyed, yet not in anger or in battle. (NIV)
(We know that Caesar Augustus died of a disease which makes the last phrase fit very well to his death.) Compare this text to Luke 2:1-2:
In those days Caesar
Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman
world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor
of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register. So Joseph also went
up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of
David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to
register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a
child. (NIV)
[ - For a very enlightening study re these taxations under Caesar
Augustus, may I recommend chapters 11-12 and Appendix I in Earnest L. Martin’s book
The Star of Bethlehem - The Star that Astonished the World?]
Luke gives us
the name of the Roman emperor at the time of Jesus’ birth. History books tell
us that Caesar Augustus reigned from B.C. 31 to A.D.14 supporting that he was
in power when the Messiah was born.
[ - Cf. my note re Tiberius above!
[ - To
the best of my understanding thus far, the correct revision of Caesar Augustus’
reign is Adar 27 or 28, 47 BCE – August 19, 10 CE (cf. this
link. For a brief but yet comprehensive study re the exact date of Caesar
Augustus’ death please cf. this
link! And don’t omit pressing the pertinent link(s)
under that first link!)]
So Daniel 11:16-20 describes the life and death of the first two Roman emperors; Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus. Verse 21 clearly introduces the next ruler with the words “his successor” or “he will be succeeded by.” This shows that they come one after the other in the order described.
So who is the next emperor on the Roman Stage after Augustus? Yes, Tiberius! He is introduced in Daniel 11:21. The following verses in detail portray his life and reign and his death is accurately described in 11:45. It says that “he will come to his end and no one will help him.” As I mentioned earlier, everyone eagerly anticipated the death of this hated emperor Tiberius. No one wanted to help him.
You may not have seen this before but as I compare the rulers described in Daniel 8:23-25 and 11:21-45 I see some pretty convincing details – similarities telling me that it is the same person, namely Tiberius, described in both places.
Daniel 8 Daniel 11
Fierce features 8:23 Vile person 11:21
Master of intrigue 8:23 Seize kingdom by intrigue 11:21, 34
Mighty 8:24 Do as he pleases 11:36
Destroy fearfully 8:24 Attack the strongest fortresses 11:39
Prosper 8:24 Prosper 11:28, 36
Cunning Corrupt with flattery 11:32
Deceive 8:25 Deceitful 11:23
Exalt himself 8:25 Exalt himself 11:36
Destroy many 8:25 Destroy many 11:44
Attack prosperity 8:25 Attack the richest provinces 11:24
Rise against the Prince of princes 8:25 Blaspheme against the God of gods 11:36
As you easily
can see, the description is almost identical! This list could be made much
longer if we would include Daniel 8:9-14 and compare it with Daniel 11. Below
are a few examples:
Took away the daily sacrifice 8:11-13
Took away the
daily sacrifice 11:31
Trample on the sanctuary
8:13
Defile the
sanctuary 11:31
[ -
Thank you Toby for that most valuable list of similarities!]
Conclusion
With this study we have established that the “king” in Daniel 8:23-25 fits very well to Emperor Tiberius. He was the ruler “in charge” during Christ’s ministry and death. With this understanding we have also confirmed our previous study that the “power” in Daniel 8:9-12 refers to the Roman Empire. Thus the vision and the interpretation in Daniel 8 are in harmony. We have also laid a foundation for future studies of Daniel 10-12.
In the next newsletters we will study what the intriguing words “desolation” and “abomination” mean and eventually put them together in a meaningful way.
[ - I’ll be looking forwards to seeing to what extent you’ll have taken to heart my previously provided links re a proper and valid application of those two words…]
