Dear Toby, my Brother in Daniel’s Messiah,

Yet another week of work and toil is past and gone. Again we are being blessed by the example given us by our Creator per Genesis 2:1-3! What a joy! What a blessing! Praise the Lord of Lords, Yahweh Elohim!

Yesterday I enjoyed studying, and commenting on, your Newsletter#8 (cf. copy below!) Thank you ever so much for sharing your discoveries and your path of learning with me!

It is good to realize that the two of us are seeing eye to eye on the subject matter of this 8th mailing of yours. As you’ll see below I very much agree with most everything you write re the meaning of the word ‘desolation’ that is the focus of this your study. Having focused extensively myself on this subject matter of family relationships over the last few decades,  I have taken the liberty to add my own two bits of insight and experiences in order to further elucidate some aspects of these things as I perceive them. My reason for doing so is that I am seeing the words used re these matters being generally misunderstood, and severely abused, by our society at large. That is, I am seeing a tremendous need for shedding God’s own light, the truth as it really is so far as I can perceive it, upon words that are so commonly, even generally, being abused for purposes of destroying our families and for purposes of building tremendous bulwarks used for blocking each our paths towards a realization of the Kingdom of God within each our lives here and now.

Thus again, as you will see, I am agreeing with most all of your words as you have written them. Please recognize that my own words and comments are in no way intended as correction or criticism of yours, but only as words intended to share additional details that I perceive while looking at exactly the same view as you are sharing with me through this 8th mail of yours. And, oh yes, there are some details in the picture we are looking at that we still seem to perceive in a different light, but most of those differences – mainly re dates and time - I’ve already commented upon in my prior mails to you and I see no need for repeating myself here and now.

May the Sabbath peace of our Creator rest upon each one within our families and may the rays of our Creator shine upon each our paths such that ours may be an experience emulating that which is being recorded for us per Acts Chapters 1 & 2 as touched upon also within yesterday’s mail exchange,

Desolation

Background

The word “desolation” is not an uncommon word in the Bible. It is used to describe areas that are deserted due to natural causes or because of God’s intervention.

[ - To me God’s intervention is always one and the same as “natural causes.” Conversely, natural causes and consequences are always the same as “God’s intervention.” How could it be otherwise, seeing how that God is the Creator and sustainer of all, live and in real time?!!! When to me something may seem to be “miraculous” or beyond natural causes and consequences, it is surely only because I have not as yet learned to understand those particular laws and workings of my Creator, nor how they are constantly depending upon the current will and interaction of “him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” Indeed, at this time of early spring, isn’t every budding flower and every sprouting straw of green grass a constant reminder of those miraculous workings of God?!!!

[ - If and when I fail to see that connection between the two, how can my life, and my mind’s eye, fail to be “desolated” from all the blessings inherent in perceiving the love of God - that is part and parcel of all of those events?

A place that is desolate has very few or no people. An area can also be called desolate if no animals live there. Bible translators also use words like “wilderness” or “desert” synonymously. Isaiah 64:10-11 gives us a good picture of what the word means.

Your holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. Our holy and beautiful temple, where our fathers praised You, is burned up with fire; and all our pleasant things are laid waste. (NKJV)

With this passage we clearly understand the most common meaning of the word “desolation.” When an area is laid waste not much is left, no people live there and it will soon become a wilderness.

[ - Yes, and I’ll reflect, in this setting, upon the words “It’s all in the eyes of the beholder…” What I look for I’ll see, take to heart, and value as part of my experience of the here and now. Conversely, what I am not looking for, I’ll most likely reject as dirt hiding the treasures I’m looking for, and I’ll remain blind to those corresponding realities and possibilities, thus failing to reap the benefits and blessings that would otherwise spring out from a realization and conscious application of making conscious choices accordingly… Thus again, “desolation…” “wilderness…” Cause and consequence!]

Second Understanding

The Word of God is profound. We can often find a deeper understanding with further study. There is a verse in the Bible where “desolation” has a very different meaning. The second book of Samuel tells a tragic story about King David’s children. Absalom’s brother Amnon “fell in love” with his half-sister Tamar and raped her – and then he deserted her. When the story became public, Absalom did something admirable to help his sister, 2 Samuel 13:20:

Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has that Amnon, your brother, been with you? Be quiet now, my sister; he is your brother. Don't take this thing to heart.” And Tamar lived in her brother Absalom's house, a desolate woman. (NIV)

Let us look beyond the tragic rape itself. Socially Tamar was in a pitiable situation and needed someone to care for her. Amnon should have – but didn’t want to take care of his half-sister. According to the culture Tamar was not allowed to marry. Legally she was married to Amnon but he rejected her totally. She was outside the social network and needed someone to support her financially. It was Absalom who stepped in and did this.

The consequence was that she lived “alone” for the rest of her life. Not in a literal sense since Absalom and his household surrounded her, but the Bible tells us that Tamar remained “desolate,” that is “unmarried,” “forsaken” or “divorced” (from Amnon) for the rest of her life. She knew no husband and lived as a single woman. A recent Swedish Bible translation correctly uses the word “unmarried” instead of desolate in the passage quoted above.

Old Testament

I have found that when the Bible speaks about a person or a group of individuals the word “desolate” should rather have been translated to “unmarried,” “divorced” or “forsaken.” There are other texts in the Old Testament where this particular meaning of the Hebrew word for “desolation” is found. I quote the Amplified Bible in the passage below since it includes translations of the two names, Hephzibah and Beulah. Most versions do not. One can understand the text even without the translations in brackets but it becomes very clear with them there. Isaiah 62:4-5:

You [Judah] shall no more be termed Forsaken, nor shall your land be called Desolate any more. But you shall be called Hephzibah [My delight is in her], and your land be called Beulah [married]; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married [owned and protected by the Lord]. For as a young man marries a virgin [O Jerusalem], so shall your sons marry you; and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. (AMP)

There is no doubt here that “desolate” means “unmarried” or “forsaken,” just as in the story about Tamar. In the passage above “forsaken” is contrasted to “my delight is in her” and “desolate” to “married.” Thus, the land is not considered “forsaken” if it is “married” to the Lord. Hosea and other prophets use the symbol of marriage to describe the love-relationship between the Lord and His people. Here is another text that sheds more light on this topic. Isaiah 54:1:

SING, O barren one, you who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who did not travail with child! For the [spiritual] children of the desolate one will be more than the children of the married wife, says the Lord. (AMP)

Here two groups of children from two women are described and the word “desolate” is again contrasted to “married.” One group comes from the “unmarried” woman and one group from the “married” woman. The “married” woman refers to the Old Covenant people who brought forth a child, namely Jesus Christ.

[ - And other Messiahs like – and yet unlike, unique – Him… Cf. Obadiah 1:21 KJV !]

This text is parallel to Revelation 12:1-6 where a woman is pregnant and gives birth to a Male Child, the Messiah.

[ - “a man child…” Notice that the ‘a’ could just as well be read as ‘any,’ particularly if and when the next word ‘man’ is being read and understood as in the phrase ‘the Son of Man,’ that is, ‘the Son of Adam,’ that is, “a man” such as God created into their own image per Genesis 1:26-27, that is, ‘a man’ such as is thinking, speaking, and living, in full harmony with the will of our Creator in the here and now.

[ - Yes, Yeshua, ‘Jesus,’ is a prime example for us to learn from and emulate in each our beingness, yet, in principle he is not in any sense created different from any one of the remainder of us. We are each designed and created for the very same purpose of being a unique being created into the image of our Creator, that is, in contradistinction to being a hue-man, someone looking like a man, yet not having all the necessary characteristics of such a one as is actively and constantly choosing to live in harmony with the desire of our ever loving Father, our Source, our Cause of Life, our Creator…

[ - For isn’t it true that so very much, so very many, of those particular characteristics associated with the mark of God (cf. Ezekiel 9:4) is depending upon that very first word of the Sabbath commandment, that number 4 commandment “in the midst of” the first 7 (cf. Daniel 9:27,) which word has everything to do with being thoughtful while having one’s mind focused upon such things as are fundamental to God, as in the Word of God, and in particular to the name meaning “I am what I am…” and “I will be what I will be…?”

[ - Thus, Revelation 12:1-6 ought to be applied to, and by, each of us in each our daily beingness. That is, by each our ongoing choices re each particular specific we encounter in life…]

According to this text the number of children, i.e. believers, will be fewer from the “married” woman.

[ - Yes, that is true! Yet, that is not to say that, in the very same sense, the extended family of the “married” woman, who has been and who continues to be faithful to her husband, thus taking responsibility for constantly being, and setting, a good example for her own physical children, is not having the potential for being even greater and more numerous than that of the “unmarried,” “desolate,” “barren,” woman.

[ - In particular, please notice that there is no blessing of God inherent in being “a single parent” such as is deserting his or her living spouse. The latter is a curse! Even a curse being specifically addressed in the second of the ten Commandments! Such a one is in the very highest sense being marked by such characteristics of imperfection as are being so aptly symbolized by the numbers 600, 60, and 6, and, as well, by the women of Revelation 17:5

[ - Which is to say, that no woman – and no man – should ever be fooled into thinking that there is a blessing inherent in deserting their very own physical family, even for a nominal or apparent “cause of God!”

[ - Which is a thing quite contrary to such very similar looking situations as may occur to the “deserted” spouse who is, in consequence, turning with his or her whole heart to the Redeemer of men and who, in so doing, is receiving a true calling for being, in any particular, a true Messiah in the hands of our Maker and Sustainer! And which deserted spouse may thus be blessed with getting such an extended spiritual family as is here being referenced by you – that is, as a replacement of sorts to those poor physical children who are being lost and “deserted” in consequence of the natural consequences being outlined in said second commandment. Notice too, how that second commandment is being mirrored by the sixth commandment, that is, the 2nd in a reverse count beginning with the 7th Commandment! That is: Thou shalt not kill thy own physical children!

[ - Notice too that this is no uncommon thing in today’s society! If you’ll allow yourself to have your eyes opened, you should be able to see and understand that about 11% of all children and 11% of all fathers in California as well as in Sweden are being directly molested, and thus victimized, by force of our State system and by each our contribution to that society of humanity, that is, that society of hue-man beings which are acting under a false flag of legality, which in real life terms is unlawful and contrary to the fundamental and natural laws of God! No wonder the consequences are – and forever will be – that which is so poignantly being trumpeted by the Third Angel’s Message… as mirrored also by the war propaganda that is continually shaping the opinions of those masses of people that are regularly watching the News of Public Media!]

The “desolate” woman has never and will never give birth to a child. She will never be in labor with children.

[ - Don’t forget Sarah, Abraham’s wife! And don’t forget Rebecka, Jacob’s wife! Or Hannah, the mother of the prophet Samuel! Or the barren wife’s of Ruth’s sons! And, yes, even the mother of Yeshua was “barren” or “virgin” before she became pregnant by whatever means God is, and was, using for such purposes!

[ - The number of spiritual children having sprung out of those “barren” women, yes, how many may they be…?]

She is barren. Still the number of children from her will exceed the number of children from the “married” woman. How can this be? In the New Covenant, children are not born into the family but adopted.

[ - I believe there is reason for believing that Satan himself is using words such as these for the purpose of promoting wholesale family destruction in our very own society here and now. That is, by allowing, even promoting, “no fault divorce,” “single motherhood,” the State’s willing assistance in the kidnapping of children from homes of such as are doing their very best of being responsible house-bands and husbands/fathers, and by then forcefully placing those kidnapped little ones as the “adopted” children under the roofs of such as willingly assist in such unlawful and contrary to God incentives. Yes, there are no words in existence too strong for expressing the reality of these curses being forced upon our society today!!!!!!

[ - And please don’t allow yourself, whomever you may be, to believe that there is ever a valid reason for assisting, to any degree, in such State actions towards the destruction of any family! Why? The answer is plain and simple: It’s all about false accusations. All about projecting one’s own problems upon another. All about delegating our own God given responsibilities unto another. All while forgetting that that privacy that belongs to another’s family cannot possibly be objectively perceived, understood, assessed, or acted upon by any third party. That’s an impossibility! It should be obvious to all! Yet, how easily we allow ourselves to be fooled into thinking that we, I, can know, better than they, anything re that which belong entirely within their domain and not to mine!]

God’s grace through the righteousness of Christ is the way into this relationship with Him.

[ - Yes, it is indeed through God’s grace alone that we are empowered to have our eyes opened to these fearful realities of our own beingness, of our very own society here and now, and of each our own contribution towards the same purpose!!!!!!!]

Contrast this to the first Covenant were you were counted as family only if you were born into it.

[ - That has not changed, not even one iota! – Though granted, our perception in that regards may well need a 180 degree conversion! Please recognize that unless there is a reality in our understanding the very first thing about anything, we cannot possibly perceive the true nature of that which follows! The words “born” and “birth” pertain to a beginning, not to any consequence such as may come some nine months later! If and when we make the focus of our attention too superficial, looking merely towards that which might perhaps be seen by our physical eyes, for instance, the delivery out of the womb of a mother to be, or perhaps the delivery of mail, then we are bound to be fooled into buying fool’s gold for an unreasonable price! Or is it that the source of the mail should be considered the postman delivering the mail at our door? Even without opening, or taking a closer look at, the package or the letter?]

In Hosea God speaks about how He would extend His grace further. This is a prophecy saying that He one day would extend His grace to the Gentiles, to us! Hosea 2:23:

I will plant her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called “Not my loved one.” I will say to those called “Not my people,” “You are my people”; and they will say, “You are my God.” (NIV)

Jeremiah 3:1 gives the reason why adoption is a necessity. If a woman leaves her husband and the man becomes divorced from her, he cannot marry her again.

[ - That is, in so far as pertains to that which is reality and real life and action. That is, a third party is entering the picture… Third party children are being conceived and delivered. Fait accompli! In such a setting there is no way out: Whatever one would choose to do at that point, there would necessarily be a child having their parental family destroyed, that is, that child’s primary image of God… the male and female created for him or her per Genesis 1:26-27! There is no way out!

[ - Formal divorce action alone and per se is no matter! It is not reality! It is nothing but fiction! The State has jurisdiction over nothing but fiction. Only to the degree that any of us makes our self an accommodation party does any State gain jurisdiction or power over us!

[ - Let’s not fool ourselves into giving of our God given real time powers into supporting such fiction and such false or baseless accusations as are born out of none other than the Enemy of Life, the Accuser, the Traducer and Gossip mongerers among men.

[ - Let’s not be fooled into considering such adoptions as have the “blessings” of the State as being in any sense “a necessity!”]

If so, the land would be completely defiled, according to the Lord. When the Old Covenant people divorced God the law would not allow Him to “marry” any other woman either. This might sounds strange but I believe that God follows the laws He has instituted. Therefore, adoption is the only solution and a picture of God’s grace.

[ - All of what you are saying here, Toby, is true and valid! Yet, it must not be superficially applied. It requires careful consideration by each and everyone contributing to an action. The State has no brain and cannot think! The State can never, never, ever be relied upon! To the extent of such baseless reliance the Kingdom of Satan is being built and sustained! Let’s not fool ourselves into doing that!]

More about this in a later newsletter!

New Testament

We have seen that this understanding finds support in the Old Testament, but how about the New Testament? The good news is that Jesus used this concept to explain to the Israelites what was about to happen. He warned them several times about the change in status that would soon take place. But to make sure no one misunderstands, the following must be said. Jesus came to fulfill and not to take away. This is clearly spelled out early in the gospels, Matthew 5:17:

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (NIV)

It is interesting and important that Jesus includes both the Law and the Prophets. Let us direct our interest to the “Prophets.” I propose that with His statement in Matthew 5:17 Jesus says that He had come to fulfill for example Daniel 9:24. That verse states that 70 weeks are decreed for Daniel’s people to finish rebellion, put an end to sin and atone for their wickedness. This time of probation ended as a judgment because the Israelites persisted in rebellion. Instead of repenting and turning from their sin they handed over Jesus, their Messiah, to be crucified.

[ - Yes, that is so! For a diagram of the precise reality of those 70 weeks of Daniel, please press the above link! If you haven’t seen that diagram of mine before, then you’re surely in for a surprise discovery or two!!! Next, please compare that discovery with the alternative also present in the diagram under this link]

Divorce

According to the Bible there are only two situations when divorce is approved. One is when there has been adultery and the other is the death of one of the partners. From God’s perspective His “wife” (His people) was adulterous over and over again. For hundreds of years they continued to rebel against Him. He had the legal right at any time to terminate the Covenant with them. But He did not! God’s mercy is amazing and wonderful!

[ - Here I believe there is room for more thought and more careful consideration: God is never treating His people en masse and without utmost care as to every most minute detail, is He? That hasn’t changed between the Old and the New Testament times even though many among us may think of it that way. No! God’s people consists of those unique men and women among us who truly has chosen to be willing to be willing to do the will of God. That is, God’s people consist of each and any one among us who has chosen once and for all to accept God’s leadership and guidance while recognizing the reality that without His power we remain utterly unable to sustain ourselves to any degree and in any particular. That point in real time is at the very first, the time of each our conception. That is, other than the point of God’s designing each of us in a remote beginning and per Genesis 1:1. That’s what Yeshua, Jesus, identified with. So can we! Or, that point may equally well be such a point of beginning as we find Yeshua referencing when speaking with Nicodemus about being born again. Cf. John 3:3 and also the First Angel’s Message per Revelation 14:6-7, that is, the judgment of God as delegated to each of us in each our choice at the time and place we recognize as the here and now!

[ - The question remains for ever: Am I choosing the God of truth and reality as my one and only prime point of reference, or do I prefer to rely on any other, be such other in the form of tradition, my preferred Church, School, or teacher; or perhaps the State, the local gossip, my mother’s state of insight - as my limited understanding was able to fathom it in my early childhood?

[ - To be specific: What is the definition of the word ‘adultery’ as used by Yeshua? What is the focal point and the essence of the 7th Commandment? Does it have to do with sexual behavior first and foremost? Or does it have to do with taking such real time steps as constitute a will to destroy that sacred covenant between one male and one female which carries the Genesis 1:26-27 stamp of God and which imprint is engraved and recorded for ever upon the DNA of each and every cell within the two-in-one’s (that is the duo-one’s/di-vine’s) own sons and daughters? One key question: What part responsibility do I have for contributing to such a family destructive action, whether in regards to my own family or to that of another?]

A divorce would also take place when one of the partners died (Romans 7:2). When Jesus died on the cross the separation was a fact.

[ - Yes, that covenant began with Judas’ selling of Yeshua to the “authorities.” Thus, Yeshua’s forced “marriage” to the State Church ended when he died on the cross. The church that he is married to since the resurrection is the same as the church he was married to before Judas stole him. That church consists of that people who carry the characteristics, mark, and image of God, those that have the faith that Yeshua himself had and taught. Cf. Revelation 14:12.]

But according to His promise He would take care of His people, until the end of the 490 years. This time prophecy ended 3 ½ years after His death. That is when “the time of the Gentiles” began, in A.D. 34. But legally the divorce from His Covenant People happened when He died on the cross.

[ - I believe there have been valuable lessons taught us within that past “present truth.” Yet, I believe that now is the time for leaving those footsteps of ours behind while traveling onwards ever onwards under the guidance of the Comforter and under such rays of light of God that He is shedding upon our path from time to time and from day to day. For an outline detailing our steps of growing in insight re these particular you may enjoy the PowerPoint presentation available at item #15 under this link.]

A New Testament passage that supports this interpretation is Matt.3:10 where John the Baptist said that “the ax is already at the root of the trees.” The trees are here a symbol of the Israelites and the ax being at the root of the trees says that the event is close at hand. This was a warning to the people that judgment was imminent and that everyone needed to repent. Jesus was also announcing the fact that Israel as a nation was about to be divorced from God and that the kingdom would be given to a people who would produce its fruit, Matthew 21:43:

Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. (NIV)

This was a message from the Lord! He spoke to the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the Law when they questioned Him about His authority to do miracles. He told the Parable of the Tenants, which clearly exposed their sin. Then He made the statement we read above which indicated that a change was about to take place. I don’t think this was God’s original wish and plan, but it eventually was the outcome. Jesus further explains the tragic situation in Matthew 23:37-38:

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. (NIV)

This is a cry from the heart of Jesus to His Old Covenant people. God’s intent is clearly spelled out. He had “longed” to take care of His children but this love was ignored and rejected. Like rebellious children they were not interested. At the end of the 490 years prophecy, the consequence of this rejection was eventually fulfilled and the House of Israel was left “desolate.”

[ - Yes, I believe it may be correct to thus perceive it… Yet, I believe that a much less hopeless understanding of the same may be perceived by recognizing that Yeshua was speaking, not en masse to all of them as a nation over which none of them enjoyed satisfactory control, but to each one among them, that is, Yeshua was teaching each one with a brain, each one willing to think freely under none but God, teaching each one among them about the reality of not being forced ab initio and forever to identify with the concept of being one with the State authorities and all the sins ab initio attached thereto. That State “Divinity,” which is the essence of the reality of the term “Trinity,” was and is ab initio and forever cursed and condemned to death. Cf. Genesis 1:28, Ezekiel 8:14, Daniel 2, Revelation 14:8; 20:14-15.]

Summary

·         Common synonyms to “desolation” are “wilderness” and “desert.” These three words describe sparsely populated or non-inhabited areas and can be used for land, cities, buildings, etc.

·         A second meaning of the word “desolate” is “unmarried,” “forsaken,” or “divorced.” These words can be used when referring to an individual or a group of people.

·         When used spiritually, the word “desolate” paints the picture of what happened to the Israelites when they crucified Christ. At that moment they as a people, God’s bride, divorced themselves and were no longer “married” to Him.

[ - Thanks Toby for sharing these most valuable insights and rays of God upon all your readers! I am seeing that throughout the essence of this particular Newsletter #8 you and I are seeing almost perfectly eye to eye on these particular items. That is, God is certainly guiding both of us in the same direction, isn’t He? Cf. also my words under this link that I’ve shared with you before…]

In the next newsletter we will study what the word “abomination” means and eventually put together “desolation” and “abomination” in a meaningful way.

[ - Yet again, I’ll be looking forwards to seeing to what extent you’ll have taken to heart my previously provided links re a proper and valid application of those two words…]
