What is the
“Third Day” Reference of Luke 24:21 All About?
Abstract:
Is the reference in this passage pointing to the Third Day of the week, or is this passage expressing a disappointment in regards to a misapplication of the third day on the part of the ones on their way to Emmaus? My first impression was that the latter option is true, but upon further careful consideration of the Greek words, I believe a proper English translation of this passage is as follows:
Luke 24:21 TLT And we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: But quite the opposite happened. And notice, to top all of that off, this is already (the first portion of) the Third Day of the week after which time these things came to pass [i.e. “the things,” the events, of the prior seven day week.]
Luke 24:21 KJV But we
trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

In pursuing the best available translation of this
text I was blessed with an experience that gives me a sense of being guided
directly by God, the Lord of Hosts, the Author of the Word of God, and a sense
of understanding, by my own real life experience, how He went about guiding the
hands and the minds of each of the authors of the Holy Scriptures. As follows:
After having collected and compared my prior work upon this Bible
passage, while doing also some other chores of daily life, I spend most of
yesterday, 5925[(*??*)]
10 01&02 2029 [2013-01-14], considering and wrestling with what might be the
more ultimate English translation of this passage.
After finally having been led to the above solution,
as usual, I sat down for my evening worship time with prayer and by opening my
KJV Bible as the Lord of Hosts would have me open it, that is, seemingly, but
not really, at random…
To my amazement the passage that my Bible fell open
to was the very passage within which Luke 24:21 is part. So, as usual, I read,
for my devotional, that entire story. In so doing, I felt blessed by discovering
two additional items (here
and here)
adding clarity and light, and which I had not been aware of before, to the
record of the events behind this chapter of Luke, and to the corresponding
chronology. And, in addition, I found yet another verse, Luke 24:46, to include in my TLT version
of the Holy Scriptures.
But, then again, this kind of leadership by the Holy
Spirit is certainly not a first for me during the years and decades I have been
spending towards studying and learning more re the time dimension as reckoned
by the Creator Himself, the King of the Universe…
Praise the Lord of Hosts, the Author of the Holy
Scriptures!
