“The
wife of his youth” of Malachi
What exactly are the words "of his youth" referencing?
- Are these words a reference to the
time when the husband was young or else is it a reference to his offspring, the
children of his wife, i.e. his young ones?
Mal
Mal 2:15 ...Tagen eder
därför väl till vara, så att ingen bliver trolös mot sin ungdoms hustru.
Mal 2:15 ...ונשׁמרתם
ברוחכם ובאשׁת
נעוריך
אל־יבגד׃
Notice the word נעוריך. The first
four letters, נעור, means youth, young
one, offspring, children, etc.. The last two letters is a suffix indicating
plural, i.e. "youth" in plural, and "your." If this word
"youth" was in reference to the husband's, i.e. "your"
youth, it could hardly be written in plural, could it? If on the other hand
"youth" is a reference to the offspring of the husband, yours, and to
the children of the wife, it is only natural that it is written in the plural,
is it not?
Conclusion:
The text can
only mean one thing in the original language, though unfortunately it may
easily be misread and misunderstood in various translations, e.g. in KJV and
the Swedish bible.
It is
definitely a reference to the offspring of the husband, and to the children of
his wife, and not to his own youth.
This text is a
very clear commandment from the Word of God for us never to divorce, or even
consent to a divorce, from the mothers of our own offspring, is it not?!
