Abstract:
Remember the Sabbath Day…. Each one of
them! Remember the patterns set before
us! Remember the experience of the two disciples on their way to Emmaus! How
does that experience parallel our own experience in the here and now? Are we in
the same boat with the two of them? Are we of the same mindset as they were
then and there?
What about each our own expectations of the
Second Coming of Christ?
Considerations:
1. Considering the
Bible passages re the women and the disciples first visit to the empty tomb
very close the sunset, it seems clear from the above findings that the two
disciples were walking for no more than about 1 hour and 50 minutes before
arriving at Emmaus. That is certainly compatible with a roundtrip distance from
Jerusalem to Emmaus of 60 stadia (7 miles – 11 km) as per the findings in the
fine article available here and here [same as within the black box above].
2. The above
findings also agree perfectly with the two disciples being able to return to
Jerusalem in time to join all of the disciples assembled in the upper room per
Luke 24:9, 33.
3.
So why did God have me
consider this text passage at this particular time, that is, beginning on March
16, 2023?
Is there a
crucial message hidden within this passage, that I and other Sons and Daughters
of God need to recognize at this very time in history?
Asking myself
the above question, it didn’t take long before I was reminded of these words:
”Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” KJV
Rev 1:7
Did the eyes of
the two disciples see Jesus walking and talking with
them along their way?
”15 And
it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned,
Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
”16 But their eyes were holden that they should
not know him.” Luk
24:15-16
Could it be that
likewise, on October 22, 1844, the very same type of situation did occur?
Could it be that
ever since October 22, 1844, very much the same type of situation is being
experienced by a great majority of SDAs, as also amongst Christians and others
who are truly and honestly seeking for truth, seeking the God of Truth, the God
of Life, and the God of Love?
Could it be
that, while clinging on to the traditions that we’ve been taught, we are afraid
of finding new and, to each of us, unfamiliar truths as we are each reading and studying our
Bibles? What about these Bible passages?:
”Regard
not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them:
I am the LORD your God. Lev 19:31
”And the
soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I
will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his
people. Lev 20:6
Who is the one
that is using fear as one of him most effective and most destructive weapon
against each one amongst us? What does
the Bible teach us about fear? How many hits do you find in KJV for the phrase ‘Fear
not!’ ?: [1] And what may we learn from the
testimony of our Savior and Redeemer about how to approach New Light? Does new
light give joy or sadness?
”NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path…” Psa
119:105
”Thy
testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of
my heart.” Psa
119:111
And did you know that ‘NUN’ (Hebrew: נ = נונ)
is a Hebrew letter and word meaning ‘fish’[2], and is also the Hebrew figure [number]
‘50’? As in
Pentecost! Has God, our Creator and Redeemer,
given us Pentecost, as also all of His other Sabbaths (as defined in Leviticus
23) for sadness or for joy?
Are we, I and
you, accepting and enjoying all of those Feast days of rejoicing as exactly
defined in the Bible, OR are we choosing instead the counterfeit holidays of
the Jews? Or even those of Rome? Of the Vatican? Is there a lesson to be
learned in the experience of Cain and Abel and their respective sacrifices, and
the results thereof? Did both of them receive the blessings of God?
Do we, I and
you, have a choice before us as to whether to receive eternal joy, or else
eternal sadness?
Remember the
Third Angel’s message?
What did the
two disciples discover in Emmaus? What did they do next? Did you know that that
day[3]
was the Third Day [of the week], or that that day was the Seventh Day of the
Feast of Unleavened Bread?
Has the
result of those events become a source of joy and gladness, or else, “the Great
Disappointment”?
What has been
your choice thus far? What do you choose
at this very point in time?
“The Great
Disappointment…?” OR is our Redeemer offering each One among us something that
is infinitely much better? Yes, even
here and now, where ever you and I may be located in time and space!
Is there
something more for SDAs to learn from that event of the two disciples at
Emmaus? For me? For you?
BTW, today, Wednesday
March 22, 2023, is a very special day for two very special determinations…. In our
Creator’s own calendar, will tonight be the beginning of the next month or not,
or else, will that be tomorrow? And will tonight be the beginning of Month #1,
or else the beginning of an intercalated month #13? More at this
Karaite link!
Will my choice
re the above two options allow me to walk more closely with my Creator on the exact
dates that He alone is appointing?
Does it make a
difference whether or not I choose to take time out to discern and to actually
spend time with God at the specific points in time that He is scheduling for an
appointment with me in His Book?
What do you
think? What do you “Remember…” Ex 20:8; Lev 23!
Do the
following words ring a bell?:
In Ellen Gould
Harmon’s first vision after October 22, 1844, she writes:
“As God spoke the day and the hour of Jesus’ coming,
and delivered the everlasting covenant to His people, He spoke one sentence,
and then paused, while the words were rolling through the earth…” [LDE
272.1-273.1]
But that was
before Ellen Harmon joined hands in matrimony with James White on Sunday August
30, 1846, and before the two of them recognized and accepted “the Seventh
Day” Sabbath shortly thereafter in 1846.
That is, James
& Ellen White celebrated their wedding on the day that, at that time, they
believed was God’s Sabbath. Consider it! Selah!
Even so,
there was yet another ten years before our pioneers within the Advent Movement
recognized “the hour” “of Jesus’ coming…” That is, in terms of the beginning of each
Sabbath at sunset, rather than at the fixed 6 PM hour that theretofore they had
been observing.
Or, isn’t it
true that Exodus 20:8, the Sabbath Commandment, is part and parcel of “the
everlasting covenant to His people”? And
weren’t said ten years a “paus…”, as in the quote above?
But there
were more “pause[s]…” referenced in Ellen’s
vision! Are we, as SDAs, missing
something here? New Light?
What do you think?
Remember the
two disciples while on their way towards Emmaus! Do not forget!
