Is this the Real One?
The Star of Bethlehem?
What
specifics may be found in the original Hebrew text of Matthew?
Matthew 2:1-2,
7 KJV:
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in
the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the
east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?
for we have seen his star in the
east, and
are come to worship him.
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men,
enquired of them diligently what
time the star
appeared.
Matthew 2:1-2,
7 George Howard:
1 It came to pass when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of
Judah in the days of Herod the king, behold astrologers came
from the East to Jerusalem,
2 saying: Where is the king of the Jews who has been
born. We have seen (his star) in
the East and
(we) have come with important gifts to worship him..
7 Then King Herod called the magicians in
secret and asked them well concerning
the time the star
(appeared) to them.
Matthew 2:1-2,
7 TLT:
1 It came to pass when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of
Judah in the days of Herod the king, behold astrologers came from the East to Jerusalem,
2 saying: Where is the king of the Jews who has been
born. We have seen his star
[Jupiter] rising in the East and
(we) have come with important gifts to worship him..
7 Then King Herod called the sooth sayers in secret and asked them what exact time the star had appeared to them.

Tov’s Hebrew Matthew 2:1-2, 7
The
word “חוזי”means
“visionary” (Strong’s H2335) and is here provided in the dual format. Thus,
“two visionaries.” In verse 7 a different word is used for them, “magicians,”
“diviners,” or “sooth sayers” (cf. Strong’s H7080.) Further, the word “כּוכב” (Strong’s H3556) which is here
used as an adjective, means “star,”[1]
and is here provided in the plural with the prefix “-ב” meaning “in.” Thus “two star visionaries” or “two
astrologers.”
The word “סבב” (Strong’s H5437) means “to revolve, surround or border…”
is here provided with the ending “ו-” which here
indicates “his…” The word “מזרח” (Strong’s H4217) means “rising;
east”[2]
is here provided with the prefix “-ב” meaning “in.” Given that all stars rise daily over the eastern
horizon, there must be something more to it than merely that fact, or else the
words of the astrologers, and thus also the Scripture record, would carry no
special significance. Thus I conclude that these words pertain to a celestial
object other than a fixed star as the main player. That is, the star in
question must be either a planet or a comet, the most well-known object of such
behavior being Venus, “the Morning Star.” Given that this observation pertains
to a king, the primary player in question would then likely be the largest one
among the planets, that is, Jupiter. Given the context of the Matthew text and
the event there being recorded, “the king of the Jews who has been born,” it
seems likely that Venus may well also be involved in a conjunction with
Jupiter. Thus, “We saw his planet [Jupiter] rising in the east…,” should be a
reasonable application/translation of the corresponding words of Matthew 2:2.
Furthermore, given that “חשּׁוּב” (Strong’s H2815) means
“intelligent” I wonder whether it could be that one purpose of the gift would
be that of imparting into the new king some special powers of intelligence?
Matthew 2:9
KJV:
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo,
the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
Matthew 2:9
George Howard:
9 They
harkened unto the king and went, and behold the star which they saw in the East
was going before them until they came to the place. When they entered Bethlehem
it stopped before the place where the child was.
Matthew
2:9 TLT:
9 They
harkened unto the king and went, and behold the star which they saw in the East
was going before them [that is, the star kept moving from east
to west upon the sky… as they had been doing] until
they came to the place. When they entered Bethlehem it
stood [still facing] the opposite [direction,] the [direction] from which it
was born [the East where it rose; thus beginning its retrograde motion, from
west to east, upon the sky].

Tov’s Hebrew Matthew 2:9
For those of us not grown up with the
Hebrew lingo describing astronomical events, it becomes much easier to perceive
the real meaning of these Hebrew words after familiarizing ourselves with the
celestial events they are indeed describing. Thus, it is becoming obvious that
the Hebrew word “before” in “the star… was going before them…” is built
upon the word “face” as in “facing” (cf. Strong’s H3942 & H6440.) That is,
until they arrived at their intended destination in Bethlehem the star was
still moving (facing) in the same direction, from east to west, but once
arrived, the star “עמד
נגד”
“stood opposite” (Strong’s 5975-78 & 5046-49) as it began its retrograde
motion, that is, facing in the opposite direction, in “the” “ה-” direction “from” “-מ-” which it had “risen” “קוּם-” (Strong’s H6965; thus:
“the-from-risen,”) and “which, of…” “place…” “the origin; the beginning; the
birth,” “אשׁר
שׁם הילד;” Strong’s H834, H8033-34, and H3205-06.
Matthew
2:12-13 KJV:
12 being warned of God in a dream that they should not
return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of
the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young
child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee
word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
Matthew
2:12-13 George Howard:
12 Then
they were commanded in a dream by the angel who spoke to them not to return to
Herod; so they returned to their land by another route.
13 As they were going, behold the angel
of the Lord appeared unto Joseph (saying:) Arise, take the boy and his mother,
flee to Egypt and stay there until I tell you, because Herod will seek the boy
to kill him.
Matthew
2:12-13 TLT:
12 Then
they were commanded in a dream by the angel who spoke to them not to return to
Herod; so they returned to their land by another route.
13 As they were going, behold the angel
of the Lord appeared unto Joseph (saying:) Arise, take the boy and his mother,
flee to Egypt and stay there until I tell you, because Herod will seek the boy
to kill him.

Tov’s Hebrew Matthew 2:9
In the 5th month of
Elizabeth’s pregnancy; Luke 1:24, 36:
On July 31, 16 BCE
there was at 1:52 AM rising above the eastern horizon a conjunction of Jupiter
and Venus in the constellation Gemini, the Twins, and two days later at the
same time the two of them, the planets, were joined by the aging moon. This
would be at the time of the (4th or) 5th moon of the Scripture year and also at
the time of the (4th or) 5th month of Elizabeth's
pregnancy. Cf. Luke 1:24, 36!
Two
days later… being joined by the aging moon:
At the time of the angel Gabriel’s visit with Mary in the sixth month of the Scripture year…
Venus in conjunction with Regulus and the aging moon
close by:
At the time when the
cock crows, about 3 AM, on Sept 1, 16 BCE, Venus could be seen rising over the
eastern [Jerusalem] horizon while in conjunction with Regulus, in the
constellation Lion, while also in conjunction with the Moon. This would
correspond to the 26th day of the (5th or) 6th month of the Scripture year, and
thus also with the time when Mary got her message from the angel Gabriel as
recorded in Luke 1:26-38. While the last of the stars were disappearing in the
dawn of the morning, Mercury, “the messenger star,” could be seen rising above
the eastern horizon while trailing behind Jupiter, Venus, and the Moon:
A close up to the conjunction between Venus and Regulus
(showing also the Moon in its correct proportional size:)
About 1 hour later, at the first dawn, Mercury, “the
messenger star” may be seen rising above the horizon in pursuit of Venus,
Regulus, and the Moon. Remember, the word “angel” means “messenger!:”
Nine months later…
Could this be what the shepherds saw at the time of
Yeshua’s delivery? Jupiter and Venus in conjunction at the sunset of the New
Moon, and with Mercury rising fast over the horizon for a soon to be
conjunction between Mercury and Jupiter?:
The star that the
wise men had “seen… in the east,” correlating, as it was, with…
nicely timed with Jupiter’s becoming visible over the
eastern horizon shortly
before sunrise:
After the middle of
July, 15 BCE, within (a few days, or) a month of Yeshua's
delivery[3], Jupiter became visible rising over the eastern horizon
shortly before sunrise (thus becoming the ruler of the day, so to speak) while
located quite close to the mouth of the Lion, the mouth of the Hydra, and the
mouth of the Crab (cf. Rev 12:4!) and while on its way towards Regulus (which was
the chief marker star of the constellation Leo:)
Notice Jupiter’s position right close to the mouths of
the Lion, the Crab, and the Hydra [the head of the Hydra, not seen here, is
located a little to the right of the moon in this picture:]
3 months later, and 3-4 months after
Yeshua’s delivery…
The time when the wise men came to visit with King
Herod in Jerusalem?
Jupiter came in conjunction with Regulus on Oct 6, 15
BCE…
Did the wise men realize the significance of the
conjunction in Gemini? The Twins, who are they representing? Jacob and Esau? Or
even Isaac and Ishmael? What is the extent of the boundaries of the kingdom of
their father? Only Judah, or something much greater than that? Does salvation
belong to the Jews only, or to each and every One willing to claim it for him
or herself… as the offspring of Noah, or even as the offspring of Adam? Yeshua
did: He used to call himself “the son of man,” but the true meaning of his
original Hebrew words are “the son of Adam!”
Think about that! Selah!:
Eclipses
were being strongly associated with kings being deposed and a new king coming…
On the very same evening, Oct 6, 15 CE, there was also
a 60% partial lunar eclipse with its maximum at the time of moonrise.[4]
Zooming in…
Notice the very close conjunction between Jupiter and Regulus! [Regulus was considered the marker star par excellence
of the constellation Leo, the Lion!:]
As the wise men left Jerusalem for Bethlehem:
Jupiter “stood…,”that is, Jupiter stopped before
beginning its retrograde journey upon the sky…
“The star, which they saw in the
east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was…” Matthew 2:9 KJV
Notice that at this exact time Jupiter is located 12
degrees directly south from the zenith of the sky!:

[1] Strong’s H3556: “Probably from the same as H3522 (in the sense of rolling) or H3554 (in the sense of blazing); a star (as round or as shining); figuratively a prince…”
[2] Strong’s H4217: “From H2224; sunrise, that is, the east.”
Strongs’s H2224: “זרח A primitive root; properly to irradiate (or shoot forth beams), that is, to rise (as the sun)”
[3] I’ve estimated the due date for Yeshua’s delivery to either June 11 or July 11, 15 CE. As a matter of fact Jupiter’s conjunction with the sun fell on July 11, 15 CE.
[4] SNB Oct 6, 15 BCE sunset: 17:23:18 with the moon 0° 24’ 30” above the eastern Jerusalem horizon; moonrise: 17:20:07 in eclipse, first visible portion: 17:20:40.
