Thanks Tim,
My focus is your Power Point
table "From
Creation to Abraham" listing the first twenty generations, including also
your footnotes #401-403 as published in "The Time of the End."
As best I can tell all the numbers in the 2nd and
3rd columns of that table all deviates from the exact numbers recorded in
Genesis 5 and 11. This would make some sense to me provided the author of
Genesis was using the same birthday based reckoning as most of us who live in
the Western world today are accustomed to when reckoning each our age at any
one point of time. That is, for the purpose of reckoning each our age, we are
reckoning calendar years beginning, not with January 1, but with each our birthday,
that is, beginning with anyone of 366 days if we are using the Gregorian
calendar.
I do not find any Bible instructions to the effect
of ever using a reckoning of time based upon anyone's birthday. On the
contrary, I do find three KJV passages using the word "birthday", one
in reference to Pharaoh celebrating his own birthday by hanging his own chief
baker, the other two passages in reference to Herod celebrating his own
birthday by beheading John the Baptist. In addition, I find Job cursing his own
birthday. Cf. Gen 40:20; Job 3; Matt 14:6; and Mark 6:21. Adding to that the
rather severe warnings of Rev 22:18-19, and the words of our Savior per Matt
5:18 and Luke 16:17, I fail to see any Biblical support for your method of
reckoning the Anno Mundo years as listed in the 4th and last column of your
table.
I find your way of calculating Terah's age at the
time of Abram's birth interesting. It builds, however, on the assumption that
Abram's leaving Haran for Canaan (Gen 12:4) coincided with the year of Terah's
death (Gen 11:32.) At the surface, this might seem to hold true considering the
context of those two verses and the words and the pronouns used in Acts 7:4.
Unfortunately, upon considering the much more detailed account of the events
pertaining to Terah, Haran, and Abram as given to us in a reference given to us
by the Bible itself (Joshua 10:13; 2 Sam 1:18,) it becomes obvious that 1)
Abram left Haran for Canaan on more than one occasion, at age 50 and 75, that
2) Acts 7:4 could be alternately understood in terms of the body of Terah
having been transferred from its tomb in Haran unto Canaan, that 3) Terah was
38 years old when giving birth to Haran and Nahor, and that 4) Terah was indeed
70 years old when Abram was born (cf. Book of Jasher 7:22; 9:4-6; 12:16; 13:5,
26; 22:33-34.) As best I can tell, it follows that your calculations, per your
footnote #403, re Terah's age at the birth of Abram introduces an added 60
years over and above that which is given to us per the Bible record.
What you seem to be missing is that the
Biblical-Hebrew calendar (not the calendar of the Jews referenced frequently by
John) and reckoning builds upon very simple and very exact rules including: 1)
Accession reckoning where the initiating event, birth, death, etc. is always
reckoned as within the accession year, i.e. calendar year #0, 2) years reckoned
in the Bible are (almost) always in reference to calendar years beginning after
the Feast of Ingathering in the fall (the rare exceptions are in reference to
the Persian or Babylonian calendar,) 3) the reckoning used is always in
reference to the beginnings of years, months, days, etc., never in reference to
the end of those same periods (that is, in contradistinction from such
reckoning as is common in our day and age.) Accordingly, the year of the birth
of Seth coincided with Adam's 130th year, and the 800th year thereafter was
identically one and the same year as Adam's 930th year.
Please do not take me wrong! I find your
objectives, as I have read them, and all the work you are doing in pursuit of
the truth, and in pursuit of an ever better understanding of the records given
us in the Bible, most laudable indeed! Let's keep walking onwards ever onwards,
hand in hand with our Father in heaven, and with our Savior and Redeemer, and,
soon enough, He will lead each One among His Sons and Daughters through the
gates of the New Jerusalem, into Heaven, God's Kingdom...
Praise the Lord of Hosts!
