Apparent Problems Re Dates

in an English Translation of the

Book of Jasher

(As best I can tell this translation is Moses Samuel’s English translation (out of the 1625 Hebrew version)

that was published by Mordechai Noah in New York in 1840. Cf. James Trimm’s comments here…

These errors were discovered within the Davar3 version of the Book of Jasher.

That is, the same 1840 English translation that may be downloaded for free within the likewise free Bible Study software Davar3…

which software is also providing a Hebrew font version of the Syriac Peshitta New Testament!)

They all agree when Shem is reckoned as having been born in Noah’s 502^nd year of life.

The corrected number should be 4, i.e. unless Hadad’s reign pertains to some other reign of his outside of Edom prior to his being made the king of Edom.
18	”23… Judah… was given into the hands of his children. ”[Missing sentence…] ”24 And in the eighty-ninth year died Naphtali…”		-	87, 117	62:23-24	-	-	The English version of Book of Jasher is missing the record of Benjamin’s death that is available in the Hebrew version.
19	”it came to pass in the ninety-first year of the Israelites going down to Egypt, that is in the thirtieth year of the reign of Zepho the son of Eliphaz, the son of Esau, over the children of Chittim…”		30	13	62:25	-	-	The year within king Zepho’s reign when he led the Chittims against the Africans.

23	”In the sixteenth year of the reign of Moses over Cush, Baal Chanan the son of Achbor reigned in the land of Edom over all the children of Edom for thirty-eight years.”		38	38	74:2	-	-	Based upon the context of several subsequent dates, most specifically 1) the direct context of Jasher 78:7, which context (Jasher 78:1-6) makes the 34^th, not the 38^th, year of Baal Chanan concurrent with the year of Moses taking Sipporah for his wife; 2) the 14^th year after the Exodus being concurrent with the 45 year of Latinus, the king of Chittim (Jasher 84:9;) and 3) the concurrent years 31^st of Abianus, king of Chittim (Jasher 90:2,) and the 48^th year of Hadad, king of Edom (Jasher 90:6,) it becomes obvious that 38 is a mistake for 34. (Additional valuable context is associated with the events of the 207^th through 210^th year of Israel’s sojourn in Egypt.)

25	“And at the end of ten years the Lord continued to afflict Pharaoh with destructive plagues…”		“at the end of ten years…”	“from the beginning of ten years…”	76:35	-	-	This passage is only one of very many such mistranslations of the Hebrew words “miketz” and “ketz” etc. within the Book of Jasher, as well as within the Holy Scriptures! Cf. my word study at this link!
26	”And he [the king] took for him [Adikam, the king’s son] a wife Gedudah daughter of Abilot, and [s]he was ten years old, and she bare unto him four sons.”		“he was ten”	“she was ten”	76:55	-	-
27	”And at the end of three years, the king died…”		3	3	76:59	-	-	It is obvious that Melol’s 94 years reaches to the 196^th year only, not to the 206^th year. Accordingly, based upon the context, Jasher 76:25-62 must be understood as describing an additional 10 year co-regnal period between Melol and Adikam. It follows that the “three years” of Jasher 76:59 seems very unlikely to represent anything but a misprint for “10 years” in the Hebrew Book of Jasher.
