Amen Pastor Mwanza! :-) Nehemiah 8:8 really arrested my attention today. Lord, as one whom you have called to teach and even preach betimes, please like you did Nehemiah help me to teach the unadulterated pure word "distinct ly" so that thy people will catch the "sense" and understand in spirit and in truth. Can anyone shed some light on verse 10 "eat the fat" when in Leviticus 3:17 it says "you shall eat neither fat nor blood." I would appreciate some insight into this as I'm a little confused.

Amen for the blog. The Holy Spirit along with the reading of the Word does indeed create a craving for righteousness. This has been my experience since starting the readings July of last year. Thank you to the "regulars" for the inspiring comments. I have been blessed.

Dear RBHW FAMILY. I have blessed your reading the Word of God along with the blogs and posts.i started this journey about five or sixt months ago and I look forward to this experience each day. Today I am requesting your prayers. I have to do a biopsy as a recent mammogram revealed a small abnormality. Today I will be going for my "prep" appointment, and there I will be told when will the procedure be. While I am a little nervous, deep down I believe that everything is going to be all right. Pray that God will give me peace and faith to believe in his healing power. Thanks.

The people were encouraged by the leadership (Nehemiah) to obey God and in turn they also encouraged the religious leaders (Ezra) to read and explain the Bible to them.

Amen Pastor Mwanza! There was great joy in Israel when everyone listen/understood and obeyed the word of the Lord. It is a deception of Satan that obeying the law of God is hard and that it is easier to sin! God yearns to give us His peace. John 14:17 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

"Yet do not therefore conclude that the upward path is the hard and the downward road the easy way. All along the road that leads to death there are pains and penalties, there are sorrows and disappointments, there are warnings not to go on. God's love has made it hard for the heedless and headstrong to destroy themselves. Good morning my RBHW family. Thank you Pastor Pardon for your comments. I long for the day when we will hear less sermonizing and spend more time reading the Word of God as it is written. Our people will find it a blessing to hear the Word and understand the directions and Will of God for their life than having a sermon preached top them. Gone are the days when Seventh-day Adventists were known for Readers of the Bible. May God help us to return to basics and let Him write the things that are important for our relationship with Him on the tables of our hearts. have a spirit filled day.

Praise God for this new day and the gift of life. God's Word is powerful and brings joy to the soul which encourages us to go out and spread the Word sharing it with others. I have seen many weep during evangelistic crusades after hearing His Word. They have bowed before the Lord asking forgiveness and presenting themselves before Him asking for baptism. May we continue to study His Word, sharing it with others, giving them the opportunity to accept it. I pray that God will lead me today and everyday in sharing His Word. Amen Pastor Pardon. Good morning & blessed Holy Spirit day to all. People learn in different ways. Some can read and understand some can't. Others can hear and understand others can't. Yet others can see and understand and others can't. We are to use all methods to reach God's people. We are to provide reading material, we are to preach & teach to them, and we are to live the life that counts as an example to all. In today's reading the people wanted to hear, it was read to them and they understood and praised God and obeyed. Bless the name of the Lord. When the WORD is heard, read and or seen in us, it causes a change for good. In light of this, let us study His Word and share it for it brings sorrow for sin, joy for His love & peace for His promise of saving grace. Have a blessed day all.

Did you notice? It was the people who asked to have the Book of the Law of Moses read to them. It is a powerful experience when lay people start a revival. We can do more under the direction of the Holy Spirit than we think and can start as something simple as reading or hearing the word of God. It seems I read in the SOP that it is the lay people who play a big part in finishing the work .

This morning I read of a friend of mine named Joan Warner at the Madison Campus church in Nashville who has started up three public access TV programs that promotes health and hope through God's word. The programs are called: Health Hope; Health & Wellness; and Eternity Now. No one asked her to do this. She works in an office and is not a paid minister, but God laid this burden on her heart and she is seeing the fruition of her vision.

The people wept when the word of God was read. In fact, they raised their hands and bowed their faces to the ground and said, "Amen, Amen!" It is a moving and emotional experience when you have not heard the word of God in a long time and then read it again. Probably more powerful, in some ways, than when you read it the first time. It is like drinking in the cool waters of an oasis after thirsting under a hot sun. It is like tasting warm food after being without for several days. The Word of God satisfies the soul like nothing else because it is the mind of our loving Creator communicating with His creation. It is like an old friend you have not seen in a long time. Once you have had a relationship with God and leave, coming back is can be very emotional especially if you find comfort and forgiveness in the words of our great God. It was for me. I often find myself emotional after reading about the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 because it was the answer to my question as to whether God would take me back. I saw God as my caring and loving Father patiently waiting and looking for me to come back even though I had eaten and slept in a pig sty away from Him. When I see the cross, my emotions always get away from me.

What would happen if we visited those who have left us and simply read a verse or two to them and prayed with them?

My brothers and sisters, it is time to "rescue the perishing." It came be as simple as reading the word of God to those who are sick or shut-in. The Psalms, in particular, speak to the heart of those seeking God. God's word, spoken, will not return to him void..."But it shall accomplish what (pleases Him), And it shall prosper in the thing for which (He) sent it." Isaiah 55:11.

Please pray for me. Tonight I present my vision of medical evangelism in Tupleo to our board. My prayer is that they will catch the vision and we will be as "one man."

Amen Pastor Mwansa! The word of God really is all the soul needs. It changes lives, it brings hope, it casts away fears and all worries and sorrow...etc. Dear Lord even us your dear children as we read your word and encourage one another, may our hearts be pierced with your word so that we will be revived for mission and prepare the world for your soon coming. Amen brother Mwanza : "It is because the word of God is neglected that we see so little reformation and revival " . This is so true. The Word of God is not just something we read mechanically and then close the Bible and go our way to get back to our business. The Word of God is like food that goes in us and feed our heart and soul. Its impact is lasting on us. It is God speaking to us and it is like an echo that last during the day and we respond to it, we talk to God about it and sometimes we tremble and cry because of His Word. The festival of shelters was a time to remember where God had brought the returnees from. It is helpful for us also to remember and reflect on our origins and thank God as we appreciate where we are today, through His mercy and grace. "How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth". (Ps. 119:103). "God's word provides the ingredients we need to thrive spiritually"!

What does the sacred assembly mentioned in verse 18 mean, is it about sabbath?

Amen Pastor Mwanza. The Word of God has never been read without results. It will always accomplish that which He pleases. As a matter of fact we read, in John 1:1-3,' In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.' In the words of Pastor Chenjerai the Word of God has a causative effect. The Word of God is not only creative but can re-create, rebuild the broken. Are we as a people in need of anything? Let us seek the answers from the Word of God we will come to discover that the Word of God is everything to anyone(in context). In fact we are told in the book Great Controversy chapter 37, 'Scripture our Safeguard'; "We are living in the most solemn period of this world's history. The destiny of earth's teeming multitudes is about to be decided. Our own future well-being and also the salvation of other souls depend upon the course which we now pursue. We need to be guided by the Spirit of truth. Every follower of Christ should earnestly inquire: "Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?" We need to humble ourselves before the Lord, with fasting and prayer, and to meditate much upon HIS WORD, especially upon the scenes of the judgment. We should now seek a deep and living experience in the things of God. We have not a moment to lose. Events of vital importance are taking place around us; we are on Satan's enchanted ground. Sleep not, sentinels of God; the foe is lurking near, ready at any moment, should you become lax and drowsy, to spring upon you and make you his prey."

Pastor Mwansa thank you, the distinct studying of the Word of God surely brings revival and reformation, may we just let the Bible speak here for this makes me feel so much challenged and longing for revival:
(Neh 8:8) So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
(Neh 8:12) And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.
(Job 23:12) Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
(Psa 119:72) The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
(Psa 119:130) The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
(Pro 24:14) So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
(Jer 15:16) Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
(Luk 24:32) And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
How do we feel when the word of God is read to us, do our hearts burn, does it bring rejoicing and understanding, what value do we place on The Word Of God? May the good Lord help us to value His Word as He values it for in it there's life, may we be revived today by His Word and never get too used to it that it ends up loosing it's value, may the good Lord bless us all today.

Thank you Pr. Mwanza! It is usually so amazing when people realize after studying God's word, that all the while they have been controlled by ignorance. And then they come to true confession and repentance and follow God's word as it is written, heaven rejoices, such a joy. In addition, it's also good when we are reminded of what is written so that we are revived and reformed every day in all that we do. We have ten commandments, but the fourth is the only one that many people seem to oppose. My friends pray for the people that hear of the Sabbath message; those that willingly accept it, those who walk away from it, and those that are still learning it(Pray for a friend of of mine in particular Arads and Fremzo), Amen

I value your words, as quoted below, most especially the last ten of them, albeit within the context of all:

"As people read the word of God new discoveries of the things they are supposed to engage in for God’s glory will be revealed to them. It was thus that these “Word-Seeking” people rediscovered the importance of the feasts of the seventh month."

What a blessing it would be if we too, even we as are here today, were to listen and to heed those very words of yours! Cf. Deuteronomy 5:2-5! If and when we do, I have no doubt but that the showers of blessing, that latter rain, for which our people have been praying so long, shall come upon us in abundance...

I am convinced that one of the foremost blessings inherent in keeping the one true Seventh-day Sabbath, is each our recognition of the reality of the timeline provided for us in the Holy Scriptures. Most especially, that realization has most certainly helped our people to accept and to value the realities of the creation week. That is, the reality inherent within the events of those very first seven days recorded for us in Genesis Chapter One.

Without that particular blessing, sprung out of true Sabbath keeping, How could we, as a people, have withstood the peer pressures inherent in those secular teachings that come to us under the word "evolution?"

What a blessing that is! Praise the Lord of Hosts!

But why should we stop at that? Is not God, the Ancient of Days, the God of Daniel, here to teach us ever so much more re the exact dates provided to us throughout the Holy Scriptures? Consider Isaiah 28:9-14!

But how can He do that so long as we are unwilling to listen and to heed His instructions in full?

How can we learn and experience the wealth of blessings inherent in true Sabbath keeping if we do not make Sabbath keeping a part of each our life? We cannot. Can we? So also re "the importance of the feasts of the seventh month." What blessings are we as a Seventh-day Sabbath keeping people yet to experience, if and when we begin to realize that those words apply likewise to us, me and you, even here and now, and as per the words of Moses recorded for us in Deuteronomy 5:2-5?!!!

Allow me to quote, please, the last verse from today's reading, from Nehemiah 8:18..

"18 Also day by day, from the first day until the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day there was a sacred assembly, according to the prescribed manner."

Did you notice, in that verse, that that "sacred assembly" of the Eighth Day is a thing outside of, that is, yet another portion of time that is being cut off by the Maker of Time? Yet another feast event for the people of God to commemorate and to heed. That is, a marker of time beyond the seven days defining the Feast of Tabernacles?

May I have the privilege of sharing with you a foretaste of some of the unexpected discoveries that I have felt blessed by discovering under the tutorship of my Maker, and under Him whom our Savior promised to send His people as recorded for us in John 15:26...

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:"

Thank you Pastor Mwansa. I'm picking some ideas for revival from the text.

Prerequisites for a Revival

The chapter climaxes with the Israelites sitting under booths - something they had not done since the days of Joshua the son of Nun. Before this scene occurred however, a couple of things are noticeable:

1. Unity of Mind and Purpose

From the get go in verse 1 they came together as "ONE MAN." This suggests unity of purpose; a singleness of mind. A similar instance of unification occurred on the Day of Pentecost, "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place." Act 2:1. A key pre-condition to Acts 2:1 is Acts 1: 14, "These all continued with one accord in PRAYER and SUPPLICATION...." (emphasis supplied).

2. Godly Sorrow From the Conviction of the Word

When the law was read by Ezra the people wept when they heard it. But they were told not to weep, but to “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” When the law works as it should - revealing our sinful state before a holy God, it should bring conviction and godly sorrow (2 Cor. 7: 10). This is not a sorrow of hopelessness however, because we have a forgiving God who stands ready to forgive and restore us. His heart was made plain through the life and ministry of Jesus and was hardly more beautifully testified of than through the story of the woman caught in the act of adultery. The proverbial pronouncement of Jesus, which continues to echo with unfading resonance into our day is, "Neither do I condemn thee." John 8: 11. Is it any wonder that Jesus would say in Matt. 5: 4, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted?" May the reading of God's word bring conviction to our hearts today and always.

Father in Heaven, thank for the assurance of forgiveness and reconciliation with You. But more than the assurance of this forgiveness do we need the cleansing of the Holy Spirit so we shall not have need for any further pardoning, but shall constantly live in accordance with Your divine will. We ask you to unite us in the common cause of hearing Your Word and doing Your will. This is our desire through Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

Below is quote from the New American Commentary ( Vol. 10): Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, p. 224 on Neh. 8:2 -

" The Old Testament emphasizes that God's Word is to be known and used by all people, not only the priests and leaders. Early Christians adopted this same principle. This changed as time went on as fewer and fewer people had acess to the Bible. The Protestant Reformation , with its emphasis on 'sola scriptura' (on the Bible as the sole authority for faith and practice) returned to the biblical principle that every believer should read Scripture as God's Word for their lives".

I find it most encouraging to see that they were told not to mourn - so often we too can forget that the "Joy of the Lord is my strength" v10. David's prayer too was "Restore to me the Joy of Your salvation". We need to show the world that while we are in the middle of a raging battlefield - we have the "Joy of the Lord" to sustain us.
