Thank you Sister Ruth,
Yes Ahab was bad company. Yet, he
too was a man created by the One God of the Universe, the one God of Love.
Jehoshaphat knew the power of God's love and the importance of taking care of
his brother, yes, even Ahab. When Ahab turned to the priests and prophets of
Baal for advice and counsel, Jehoshaphat lovingly suggested a much better way.
The other Sabbath my attention
fell upon Amos 2:12 and the words "But ye... commanded the prophets,
saying, Prophesy not."
I was
impressed also by the words I found in the May 3 portion of our Sabbath
School quarterly as follows:
"As individuals, and even
as a church as a whole, we are not immune to the cultural and societal trends
in which we are immersed, are we? Dwell on the changes that have happened in
your own culture and society over the years. For example, what things that were once considered shameful and taboo now openly are
expressed and practiced, even deemed good or, at least not wrong? How have
these changes impacted the church’s attitudes toward
these acts? What can we do in order to protect ourselves and our church from
falling into the dangerous trap of calling evil good?"
As
we pray also for those beloved pastor Brethren of ours that are imprisoned in
Togo, let's not forget to ask ourselves also such
questions as: What part responsibility do I have in these things that are
befalling us? To what extent are we doing as king Jehoshaphat did, or else, to
what extent are we turning to the Baalim as king Ahab
did? Cf. also this link:http://tinyurl.com/cqxlabf
May the peace of our Creator
and Redeemer release each one of us out of our bondage and suffering!
Blessings
to all!
