The inspiration such music has on worshippers is truly "heavenly". The opposite is often experienced when worship music is dominated by a set of drums, and the singing is in a repetitive chant. We learn so much more when we sit at our Lord's feet and ask "how do you want it done!" God bless.
Amen and amen! May He bless your heart! I am really looking forward to being enriched by more of RBHW comments on this topic when I return on the forum in 24 hours. May God bless you Claradiane as He leads us "safely through another week." I hope you had a blessed Sabbath. A happy Sabbath and good night from Plymouth Minnesota to all my RBHW family.
Amen and a blessed week.
Amen
Amen!
Amen Claradiane. Looks like most people want music that move the body and not the soul
Good morning Claradiane..You are so right ..I have heard acouple of lectures on the subject ..and the bad influence as in making music worldly is if the music is scincipated (not sure of spelling ) and on the "half beat"..rythmic..ect and a lot of repitition...its abig subject and one that satan is using alot ...sometimes its christian words ..but very like real worldly music ...When our songs are blessed by The Holy Spirits influence ..Worship and praise to God can be so uplifting and full of blessing for the congregation ...The worship in King Davids time would have been absolutley wondrful ..Gods blessings on your week....
amen, the Lord through EGW tells us: "the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. Every uncouth thing will be demonstrated. There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions. . . . {LDE 159.1}
A bedlam of noise shocks the senses and perverts that which if conducted aright might be a blessing. The powers of satanic agencies blend with the din and noise to have a carnival, and this is termed the Holy Spirit’s working. . . . Those things which have been in the past will be in the future. Satan will make music a snare by the way in which it is conducted.--2SM 36, 38
What about Psalm 150?
Are not v.v. 3-5 a "bedlam of noise"?
The way i understand it is that there is no problem with the things listed in psalms 150: the trumpet: psaltery and harp, timbrel and dance :stringed instruments and organs, loud cymbals: high sounding cymbals, the issue is how the things are used and what effect they have.
The phrase used "Bedlam" means: a noisy confused place or situation; state of uproar, a scene or state of wild uproar and confusion etc, and the quote tells us that the result of every uncouth thing being demonstrated, shouting, with drums, music and dancing will lead to confusion etc, Satanic agencies are involved and it is attributed to the Holy Spirits working. Sounds like Babylon (confusion) let us not allow this into our churches!
One of my favorite pieces of music is Handel's Messiah, not quiet piece of music but i believe a powerful piece that glorifies God. Music can be used for great good to glorify God, bring joy, peace, happiness, but also Satan has used it for great evil. Music such as voodoo, modern dance music, rock and heavy metal etc (extreme examples) can have negative effects on our minds and physiology. The music not just the words have their effect. We need to be careful that what we listen to leads us closer to God and the atmosphere of heaven and not away from God. It is not just about the words, questionable music is not made o.k. by putting Christian lyrics to it, we need to honestly assess the instrumental itself.
Amen & Amen...
Well said! Amen!
Amen, so true.
I wish we could borrow a line from Isaiah's words (on proof of true prophets) for authentifying songs that have infiltrated our modern Adventist congregations: " ...speaking according to His word, or else there is no light in them." Its a sensitive topic that makes most saints quip, but let's face it, most songs do not seem to edify or have any enlightenment (full of repeated phrases, words, e.g. "I, me, my, mine, lalala, huhuhh," and so on and so forth, very little meaning if any, mercy!). Contemporary as well as old songs, styles, mixtures of the songs, are to be chosen for their focus on Christ and not the composers or worshipers, just a food for thought here brethren. We are followers of the Word as was Israel. We just looked at gate keepers of the Lord's sanctuary; King David's church did an awesome job back then; the three chosen men for this task were truly inspired to come up with songs that led to uplifting worship. It is not a so much perfect world, it wasn't either back then, hence we can still learn from the fact that the Psalms met the idea of uplifting God, souls and hearts heavenward. They still do even now. And, we can all be gate keepers in one way or another, we cannot just standby or heap it all on church leadership, we can and ought to pray about this brethren.
My prayer is that the same God of the old time religion may inspire our modern sanctuary worshipers and its gatekeepers to embrace songs that teach sound doctrines, uplift souls and hearts up to "the place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God" and evidently focus on glorifying our Maker, Jesus Christ; His birth, even His daily rebirth in our hearts, his death of crucifixion and resurrection and their meaning, His life in our hearts and the grand hope of His soon coming as King of Kings to take us home where our adoration of Him will be complete in a non-tainted atmosphere.....and more, even so, come soon Lord Jesus!
Thanks Ruth!
I wish to join you in your wish and prayer...
The psalms authored by David and others, as available to us in the Bible, are saturated with most important messages from our Creator and Redeemer. Yet, in some countries, Sweden being one, our popularly elected leadership has been enticed into forcing the Vatican II initiated Ecumenical songbooks upon our beloved Seventh-day Adventist congregations. Many of those Psalms and Songs are deceptively similar to the songs we have chosen for our very own songbooks in years past, yet I find many of the most essential messages within those Psalms and Songs, as originally designed by their original authors, being removed, changed, or watered down into oblivion. It is absolutely impossible to choose Psalms or Songs out of those Roman Catholic songbooks that are not certain to influence the thoughts and the lives of our beloved Brethren and Sisters in accord with the designs of the powers that be behind the Roman Church. The undesirable consequences, albeit certainly in line with the intent of the initiators of those Vatican II songbooks, have not been long in becoming ever more obvious to those of us who are willing to perceive the obvious...
My prayer is that I will become ever more willing to perceive my own share of responsibility for making these undesirable consequences a permanent feature in the lives and families of even my very own children... and to do what I can towards changing my own ways accordingly... One simple little thing that I've learnt not to do, is not ever to blend my own voice into the chorus of those who chose to lend their strength and support into singing those songs of deception.
May the Lord of Hosts protect us from our selves such that we will be removed from the curse inherent in 1 Sam 8:18... http://biblia.com/books/nkjv/1...
Blessings to all our beloved Brethren and Sisters among the Seventh-day Adventist movement
Amen.
Thankyou for this alert bro Anders ..Let us all pray that other countries leaders of our church ..will stand up against this subtle move of "MIND control?"...could you share your thoughts with the General Conference leaders on the subject?..God bless you with wisdom and strength of Spirit ..And thank you for alerting the RBHW family ..
Let's thank God, the Lord of Hosts, for guiding His People, each One among His His own Soldiers of Truth, even unto this very blog, if that is what He needs to do in order to alert whomever is indeed a leader, in which ever capacity, among us.
I value your words of concern re this important issue. Thank you for sharing!
May the peace of our God and Savior rest upon each our family and home!
Amen
If a song does not come from the SDA Hymnal, does that make it wrong?
Certainly not. But, what exactly is your point of reference re what is right and what is wrong?
From my point of view, it is obvious that the objectives of the authors of the SDA Hymnal were quite different from the objectives of the powers behind Vatican II.
More importantly, the principle of Sola Scriptura has been prominent in the mindset of genuine Seventh-day Adventists. More so the closer they were to the roots of the Advent movement.
Not so with Vatican II and the Ecumenical movement that was engineered at that Vatican II council of 1963. No doubt you know that the platform of the Roman Catholic church was once and for all voted upon and decided in favor of "Tradition and the Bible," in that order. That is, for the authors of Roman Catholic designed songbooks, the principles of the Bible are, as a matter of Roman Catholic principle, overruled by church tradition, which is the same as to say that the principle well known from children's playing the game of whispering is the governing principle re what constitutes "the truth" of theirs from time to time. But isn't that the same as saying that gossip mongering and the Traducer, aka. Satan himself, is at the helm?
Why would I wish to saturate my mind with the subtle messages of error and deception that are designed and effectively built into any songbook of the Roman Catholic Church?
Do you see my point? And, does that make sense to you?
Shalom

Amen Sis. Ruth!
God be praised and thank you for your comments. My prayer too
Amen sis Ruth, singing could only inspire people if the singers are filled with the holy Spirit. Mrs White gives us this caution ; taken from ev 510 ; Qualities of Good Music—Great improvement can be made in singing. Some think that the louder they sing the more music they make; but noise is not music. Good singing is like the music of the birds—subdued and melodious. In some of our churches I have heard solos that were altogether unsuitable for the service of the Lord’s house. The long-drawn-out notes and the peculiar sounds common in operatic singing are not pleasing to the angels. They delight to hear the simple songs of praise sung in a natural tone. The songs in which every word is uttered clearly, in a musical tone, are the songs that they join us in singing. They take up the refrain that is sung from the heart with the spirit and the understanding.—Manuscript 91, 1903.
Amen, thank you Sis Harriet...
Thank you Sis Harriet for this quotation from Mrs White ..This is aserious subject to think and pray about ...and if such music is reguarly being heard in church (the wrong music or songs ..) may we have the courage to mention our concern to the music commitee ..or board meeting ..May all the RBHW Family be blessed at the start of this new week..
Amen.
Nowadays, the more operatic the singer, the best gospel singer we categorized. The louder the drums the more excited the praise & worship team... Very Sad. To experience the delight of simple songs of praise sung in simple tone, just visit an sda in a very isolated areas like in the pacific or in the middle of africa. There you will hear great harmony and what egw explained the music of the birds. Nothing compares to our own voice sing harmoniously together in good blend...
I conquer with your comment. God is very particular with how things are done in His honour and praise.
Amen.
Amen
amen, as songs are a powerful way to instill truth in our minds, so it seems to me that songs are also an effective way to teach error in a way that is less likely to be discerned. Let us think about what we are singing and sing songs that glorify God and the truth.
"Lord, revive the praises in the midst of Your people, by the inspiration of Your Spirit." I echo back your prayer bro. Jobson, thanks and Amen.
Amen!
Amen.
Amén!
Amen brother Jobson
Amen brother Santos
Amen Bro. Santos!
Good morning family and Thank you brother Santos. God be praised. When the Spirit inspires and is experienced through the singers/music, worship is beautiful and such a blessing. Holy Spirit - unite our hearts in praise to you and enable us to truly worship in Spirit and in truth.
Amen brother Jobson
Praising God in music and pure life is our duty throughout all generetions, may learn from David and keep praising God as long as we live. Amen. Israel.
Good morning blessed of my father, and may the Lord bless brother Jobson for this wonderful ministry. Verse 1-3 of today's lesson refferes singing the praises of God to prophecying! Not that the singers were prophets. But I think the words of the music they sung were composed by the prophets ; 1 Samuel 10:3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
Amen
Good morning, Harriet. The bible does state that the musicians were prophets. The bible dictionary tells us that a prophet is anyone who speaks for God. This can be a pastor who brings us the message from God's Word, or a teacher, or parents, or anyone who shares God's Word with another. Thank you and have a blessed day. 😊
Harriet, you`ve been so supportive. Thank you!
I was intrigued by the blog entry today. These Levites were able to dedicate themselves to full time praise and worship as they were supported by the tithes and offerings. The same does not appear to be practiced in the church now. Of course we do not have the need for full time singers and musicians as was needed in the temple at this time. I've spoken with many musicians who tell me they've given off their time and effort and are often not appreciated. Some have told me they will play for other denominations as they will get paid and are often appreciated. The other argument could be that the Lord has blessed them with these gifts and they're using it to glorify him, they shouldn't expect to get paid. Other officers give off their time freely. I'm not here to give an answer, more stimulate debate as I find it interesting.
