Study re “הימים לקצת” found in Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew 12:9;

translated “at the end of days” (George Howard,) and without translation in KJV.

Comprehensive review of all OT texts using H311... [jamim] and 711… [katz]

Abstract:

Based upon the below findings I conclude that “הימים לקצת” indicates the last portion of the year. Possibly the usage of this term indicates that the end of the year is at the beginning of, or else begins with, Tishri 10, which finding would be consistent with the language both of Daniel and Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew.

After thoughts:

Considering that the primary meaning of the Hebrew word for day “ימ” is “to be hot; a day (as the warm hours)” [Strong’s H3117,] it would not seem too farfetched to apply the plural version of that word to the hot season of the year, i.e. to summer, would it? There is a clear, but not so often mentioned parallel between the daily 24 hour cycle and the annual 365 day cycle. Both have a cooler and darker portion and both have a hotter and lighter portion. If God has clearly defined the beginning and end of the former, isn’t it only natural that the latter definition follows suit? At least that’s how it seems to me! Accordingly, it would make a lot of sense to define the end of the year as being also the end of the summer and to consider the Day of At-one-ment the exact Day instituted to mark the beginning of the new Year. Consider, in this respect Leviticus 25:10 and Leviticus 23:24, 27.

Lev 25:10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

Lev 23:27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be a holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Or, better yet, considering the importance God places upon the Seventh Day Shabbat at the end of every week, isn’t the Day of At-one-ment a mark in time preparatory for the week of the Feast of Tabernacles that follows? Wouldn’t it make a lot of sense to consider the seven days of the Feast of Tabernacles the very last portion of the summer growing season and of the year? And, in fact, isn’t this also evidenced by the distinct and separate Feast Day, The Eighth Day, that follows immediately upon the Feast of Tabernacles? And isn’t the chief characteristic of this Eighth Day that it is the beginning of something new, a new era, a New Year? Why would we ever think that the Feast of Tabernacles would be placed at the beginning of any time period, when God is everywhere else emphasizing the importance of the concluding part of every important time period as a period of reminiscence, of praise, and of Feasting?

Also, searching Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary for the word “summer” I find that the only Hebrew word where “summer” is found is under words closely related to the Hebrew word “קצ.” These things being considered for what they are, it seems clear to me that a more correct translation for the Hebrew word “קצ” is “fall” or “autumn,” although the Hebrew word “חרף” is also used to designate the time when “the crop gathered, that is, (by implication) the autumn (and winter) season.” Perhaps I may suggest that this latter word is pointing to a time of the year subsequent to the time defining “קצ?”

Dating Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew 12:9:

May I suggest that the reason that Yeshua “entered into their Synagogues” “at the end of the days” was that this was the time for the Day of At-One-Ment and for the Feast of Tabernacles and the ultimate conclusion of the year at the beginning of the new year on Shemini Atzeret (the Eighth Day)?

Findings:

Searching 311x plus 711x (i.e. “311 711”) hits one 3118 while all the rest results in 3117 plus the 711x. The 711x results are 1x7110, 6x7114, 1x7116, 4x7117, and 1x7008.

More importantly I find seven text passages where the search words are adjacent to, or otherwise associated with, one another.

Of those seven there is only one, Dan. 1:18 “ולמקצת⁷¹¹⁷ הימים³¹¹⁷,” using the letters “קצת” and the attached definite article, i.e. “הימים.”

Again, of those seven there is only one, Dan. 4:34 “ ולקצת⁷¹¹⁸ יומיה³¹¹⁸,” using the letters “לקצת.” But in this case the “יומ” is specified by the letters “יה” as in “day of Jahwe.”

The third and last passage using the letters “קצת” is Dan. 1:15 “ומקצת⁷¹¹⁷ ימים³¹¹⁷ עשׂרה⁶²³⁵ ” but here the days are specified using the word “עשׂרה⁶²³⁵,” “ten” as in “ten days” or, perhaps, as in Tishri 10, the Day of At-one-ment, i.e. “the day of fasting.”

Three other passages, Job 14:1, Psalms 89:45, and 102:23 use “קצר⁷¹¹⁴,” which word seem to be consistent with something that is ‘shortened,’ as in shorter than a full year, e.g. a harvest brought in prior to the end of the year, or a baby that is delivered less than one full year after it is born, i.e. conceived.

The seventh text passage, Dan. 1:5, does not have the words searched for adjacent to one another, but is of interest for other reasons and is retranslated in the discussion below.

Discussion:

It seems clear that these words in Dan. 1:18 are pointing to the end of the three years referenced in Dan. 1:5:

Dan 1:5 TLT+ And an allotment⁴⁴⁸⁷ to them by the king’s⁴⁴²⁸ decree:¹⁶⁹⁷ day for day^{3117, 3117} out of the king's⁴⁴²⁸ dainties⁶⁵⁹⁸and of the wine which he drank;^{4460, 3196} thus nourishing them¹⁴³¹ [for the first] three⁷⁹⁶⁹ years [of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign,]⁸¹⁴¹ that at the end thereof^{4480, 7117} they might stand⁵⁹⁷⁵ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ the king.⁴⁴²⁸

Dan. 4:34 seems to point to the end of the “ ושׁבעה⁷⁶⁵⁵ עדנין⁵⁷³²” i.e. of the “seven times” (KJV,) “seven years,” “sevened (completed or appointed) time,” or even “completion [“שׁבעה”] unto [“עד”] the fifty [“ן” = nun = 50] or unto the 110 [“נין” = 50+10+50=110]” referenced in Dan. 4:32.

H5732, עדּן, ‛iddân, id-dawn', (Chaldee); from a root corresponding to that of H5708; a set time; technically a year: - time.

H5708, עד, ‛êd, ayd, From an unused root meaning to set a period (compare H5710 and H5749); the menstrual flux (as periodical); by implication (in plural) soiling: - filthy.

This brings my thoughts to 5921± 06 22 2017 [9/11/2001] and the two 110 floor WTC [WTC=U+U+C=5+5+100=110 (Roman) or WTC=wav+tau+samech=6+400+60=466] towers, and the event that so accurately fulfills the prophecy of Revelation 18.

Conclusion:

Each and all of the above passages in Daniel seem to indicate a point in time at the end of the year, whether biblical or Babylonian is uncertain. If biblical, then the end of the year could be implied, by the within studied term, as being at, or beginning with, the beginning of Tishri 10. (Cf. also my considerations under Abstract above.)
