Jeremiah 26 – “Walk in My Law”

May I encourage each of us to identify with the prophet Jeremiah while reading Jeremiah 26 and applying it to our here and now?

May I ask you to remember with me a few things and to consider a few thoughts upon this “Sabbath day - to keep it holy?”

1. What type of excuses do “Christians” and others entertain in order not to keep the Fourth Commandment as exactly specified in the Scriptures?

2. Is Satan being effective in his pursuit by promoting those types of excuses?

3. Is it possible that you and I as true and honest Seventh-day Adventists are still being blinded to the full realization of the blessings inherent in say the First and Second Commandments by excuses similar to the ones you just thought of re the Fourth Commandment?

4. Do you see any connection between King David’s sin as related in 2 Samuel 24 when he counted the people, and the Second Commandment?

5. Considering the ID card system in Rwanda funded by Belgium beginning in about 1934, do you see any connections to the genocide event that happened in May 1994 – almost exactly 60 years later! ?

6. How many generations can you count in your own family over a sixty or seventy year span? - How does your answer compare to the 3^rd and 4^th generations referenced in Exodus 20:5 and Deuteronomy 5:9?

7. Can you think of any other historical events reminiscent of the above that lasted sixty or seventy years before coming to an end?

8. Can you think of any other historical events where identification of each individual was a key to mass extermination?

i. Do you perceive any common denominators between Hitler Germany during WWII, Rwanda during the genocide in May of 1994, Soviet Russia during the years of Stalin, Israel and Judah under King David at the time of the events related in 2 Samuel 24, and each our participation in today’s planetary society requiring each citizen to identify him or herself in terms of something that is property under the control of a State created by men, i.e. by means of Government issued IDs and passports?

ii. Do you feel that by contributing towards the re-enactment of any of the above named events in history we are contributing towards making this world a safer and more secure place to be?

iii. Would it have been possible for any of the above named events to have had their most horrid effects, without the use of a system identifying each individual in terms of being subject unto the powers that be?

iv. Would it have been possible for any of the above named events to have had their most horrid effects, without the voluntary consent and participation of each one being part of it?

v. Is it possible for any one of us to choose our occupation and our daily activities such that we do not give of the little strengths we may have towards situations in our society none of us desire?

vi. Is it possible for anyone to choose not to assist in a grand crime against our selves, our families, our sons and daughters, and against future generations?

vii. Is it possible for anyone to be blind to the true nature of grand schemes that most of us are contributing to though few if any have a desire for the forgotten consequences of such grand schemes?

viii. Besides violent resistance and violent assistance, is there a third choice to do neither? Has such a third choice been effective in the past, say for instance in India after the example of Gandhi?

ix. Do you and I have a responsibility for looking a little deeper into the fundamentals of whatever we are participating in?

x. Which side do I wish to be on in the end, i.e. at the time and place where the consequences occur?

xi. Are you with me yet, or which side are you on?

9. Could it be that we, you and I as Seventh-day Adventists, are blinding ourselves to the real meaning of the first three commandments in much the same way as Sunday keepers are being blinded from realizing the full blessings of the Fourth Commandment?

10. Does Jeremiah 26 have something for you and me - as it did for Jeremiah?
