רצון” = “acceptable” - KJV Isaiah 61:2

רצון” = “will” – Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew 6:10

What is the real meaning behind the words

the acceptable year of the Lord”

that Yeshua read out of Isaiah 61:2

on the Day of Sabbaths,

the Day of Pentecost

?

Abstract:

It seems to me that a prime meaning of the Hebrew words behind the English words “acceptable year” is no less than a term for God’s own calendar, that is God’s own year, “year of delight,” “שׁנת־רצון,” the year and the calendar being used in the Kingdom of God…

Is there anyone willing to accept the Second Coming of the Messiah, beginning with His very own reckoning of time, beginning with His very own calendar reckoning?

As said Yeshua himself: “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is what you make of it!

Considerations:

Luke 4:16 TLT  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Day of Sabbaths [Feast of Weeks; Pentecost,] and stood up for to read.

Luke 4:17 KJV  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

Luke 4:18 KJV  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Luke 4:19 KJV  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Luke 4:20 KJV  And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Luke 4:21 KJV  And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

  Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew 6:10

Isaiah KJV 61:2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Matthew 6:10 KJV  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Luke 11:2 KJV  And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

From H7521; delight: [KJV:] - (be) acceptable (-ance, -ed), delight, desire, favour, (good) pleasure, (own, self, voluntary) will, as . . . (what) would.

H7521

רצה

râtsâh

raw-tsaw'

A primitive root; to be pleased with; specifically to satisfy a debt : [KJV:]- (be) accept (-able), accomplish, set affection, approve, consent with, delight (self), enjoy, (be, have a) favour (-able), like, observe, pardon, (be, have, take) please (-ure), reconcile self.

In the only available manuscripts of the New Testament that are written in the original Hebrew language, Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew, we find the very same word, “רצון,” within the Lord’s prayer. In the Lord’s prayer this word is commonly translated as meaning “will.” Per the usage within the Lord’s Prayer it seems clear to me that this word has something to do with the coming of the Kingdom of God. Thus, these Hebrew words, as read by Yeshua in the synagogue, seems very much associated with the very first recorded words of both John the Baptist and Yeshua:

Matthew 3:1 TLT  In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

Matthew 3:2 TLT  And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is what you make of it.

Matthew 4:17 TLT  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is what you make of it.

Matthew 3:1 KJV  In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

Matthew 3:2 KJV  And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 4:17 KJV  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

The word “רצון” (Strong’s H7522,) is found 56 times in the Old Testament. The very first occurrence of this word is found in Genesis 49:6:

Gen 49:1  And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

Gen 49:2  Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father.

Gen 49:5  Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.

Gen 49:6  O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: forH3588 in their angerH639 they slewH2026 a man,H376 and in their selfwillH7522 they digged downH6131 a wall.H7791

It occurs to me that the Hebrew term “שׁנת־רצון” might well pertain to God’s own definition of His calendar year. That is, the calendar He himself has designed for His own Kingdom:

Isaiah 61:2לקרא שׁנת־רצון ליהוה ויום נקם לאלהינו לנחם כל־אבלים׃

It is clear from the scripture as well as from other ancient sources that every Kingdom has its own more or less unique calendar. The Creator, the Ancient of Days, the Creator of Time itself, is no different in that respect. From the very beginning He has defined the elements of time: 1) “In the beginning…,” 2) “and the darkness and the light, one day…,” 3) “the second day…,” 4) “the third day…,” 5) and on the fourth day:

Genesis 1:14 KJV  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Yeshua said:

Matthew 16:3 KJV  And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

King Jeroboam became the infamously evil king par excellence of the Old Testament. I have no doubt that a prime reason for him being considered a prime example of an evil king is none other than his willingness to change God’s own calendar reckoning, that is God’s own year, “שׁנת־רצון.

All of the special annual Feasts, or Appointments, of Jahwe, as defined in Leviticus, are designed, I believe, for the prime purpose of teaching God’s own calendar, God’s own reckoning of time. The counting of the Omer, from day 1 through day 50, a reckoning of days from one Seventh-day Shabbat unto another Seventh-day Shabbat, that is, unto the Day of Sabbaths, Pentecost, is a most fundamental key to the realization of the year of Jubilee in the here and now. Indeed, the 50th day, Pentecost, the Day of Sabbaths, is itself designed as a small scale version of the year of Jubilee, the 50th year as reckoned from one Sabbatical year unto another Sabbatical year…

Thus, clearly Yeshua, upon reading this passage out of Isaiah 61:2 was first of all giving reference to that very day, the Day of Sabbaths, Pentecost.

I also notice that, as best I can tell, the year of Yeshua’s reading of this passage was the Scripture year following immediately upon the year when John the Baptist began his ministry, which year was the very middle year of the 80th 49 year Jubilee cycle as reckoned from the beginning referenced in Genesis 1:1. Furthermore, the Day of Sabbaths is the crowning event of a reckoning of days that begins on the “high day” (John 19:31) known as Hag HaOmer or the Day of the Waving of the Sheaf, the Seventh-day Sabbath within the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which seven day appointment ends at the beginning of Aviv 22, that is, the Day of Shabbats may be considered the “fulfillment” of the very focal point of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and thus also the “fulfillment” of the very focal point of the entire Scripture year. That is, per Yeshua’s own words:

Luke 4:21 KJV  And he began to say unto them, This day [the Day of Shabbats] is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Notice also that the 80th cycle of Jubilee years, is also the last and 10th cycle of Jubilee years following upon the “fulfillment” of the first seven tens of “fulfilled” Jubilee cycles as reckoned from creation. (Cf. the tag “6000+ years” within my Excel-file ‘The Sacred Calendar of the Creator in Progress…’; Notice that the Sabbatical years referenced by Josephus (green colored cells) are not the same as the Sabbatical years as reckoned from Creation! (Red colored cells!))

Thus, one way of looking at it is that Yeshua’s 3½ year living ministry was the crowning event fulfilling, or completing, the very focal point of each and every cycle of Jubilee. The year of his crucifixion and resurrection in 19 CE, in a year following immediately upon the completion of a Creation based Sabbatical year, may serve to illustrate the sowing and the sprouting of the grain that is being symbolized by the Waving of the Sheaf at the morning of the Seventh-day Sabbath within the seven days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

Consider this same focal point, the Waving of the Sheaf sacrifice, as referenced also by the Sign of Jonas as it actually happened in that year, 19 CE! Please cf. this link!...

And never forget: Yeshua’s life is forever to remain a prime example for each one of us, me and you, to emulate and to follow in each our life! His life was a substitute in the very same sense that every symbol is a most essential tool (a substitute mirroring one reality or another) for learning anything of value! Using such a symbol for any other purpose is the same as missing the point…

And remember too: The definition of the Greek word for ‘sin’ per Strong’s G264 is “to miss the mark!” That is, “to miss the point!” Cf. also Strong’s G795!

Let’s remember this always: God’s own calendar reckoning, that is, God’s delightful year, “שׁנת־רצון.” By stepping into God’s own frame of time… Why, isn’t that the same as stepping into the Kingdom of God? And wouldn’t that be a realization of sorts of the Second Coming of the Messiah? In each our life… and in accord with each our willingness to accept those tremendous promises of our Creator and Savior!

Consider it! Selah!
